TUE: Commuting in Pea Soup

ECML-Route-Weather Watch

Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train.

Tuesday 19th February 2008:

Commuting in Pea Soup

Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs minus 0.8'c

A treacherous start to the day in Melton Mowbray this morning, the pavements were covered in black ice and the car was frozen solid. All over the town a blanket of thick freezing fog had fallen overnight.

The drive to Grantham along the A607 was very slow indeed, with thick fog all the way. Once on board the train the fog remained becoming a little less dense between Retford and Doncaster before thickening up again towards York.

On arrival into York it's still foggy and damp but the frost has gone.

Temperature at 06:30 was minus 0.8'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature minus 3.4'C.

Tomorrow; The last day of the chill?
