[u]Winter's Short Return[/u]

[b]Over the next 36 hours or so winter is going to make a short-lived return to some areas, and yes there will be SOME snow around. However its still VERY uncertain as to where the snow will fall. Colder air will try to push in from the East, and mild Atlantic air will push up from the South-West and when the 2 areas meet later tonight and into tomorrow there will be some sleet and snow in places.

Back to this afternoon and its a mostly cloudy day across most areas, with limited brightness. For the South-West it will start off dry with a few light showers, before a band of more general rain moves in. The rain will be heavy at times through this evening and overnight, clearing the far South-West towards dawn. For Northern Ireland there will be some clear spells with some limited sunshine through this afternoon, before cloud gathers towards dusk. Again rain heavy at times is likely to push across most of Ireland, the rain will sit across Ireland from about midnight and perhaps linger for most of the day tomorrow.

For |Wales there will be some bright spells the further West you are for a time, further East the cloud is likely to remain thick. As we move towards the overnight period rain will begin to push in from the South-West. At the moment i think Western Wales is likely to see rain, maybe some sleet. As the rain hits central areas of Wales and the Eastern side it is likely to turn to snow more so over the high ground. However for low lying areas i think its going to be border-line as to who has snow and who will not. Amount are very uncertain 1-3cm to SOME low lying areas and 5-10cm across the hills.

For Scotland/Northern England/Central England and the South (away from the South-West) it will be a dry and cloudy night for most areas, Western areas of Scotland and England will have clear spells at times leading to a slight frost. Further East it will remain cloudy with patches of mist and fog forming. Some light showers may effect Eastern England coast-line from time to time.

Tomorrow morning and the rain band will be sitting across Ireland/South-West England and Wales, rain is likely across the South-West this heavy at times. However as we move across Wales and later some parts of Central England/Southern England and maybe the South-East later. Snow will fall across most of Wales through the morning giving a covering in places, with more of the hills. Amounts and as to where the snow will fall is going to be very difficult to forecast. However 1-3cm to SOME low lying areas and 5-10cm across the hills.

The rain/sleet and snow band may make it as far North as North-west England, before fizzling out. As it begins to fizzle most of the precipation will move towards the South East. Some snow is likely across Central parts of England, South of Birmingham and will tend to move towards the London area. Although i feel its going to be a case of a now cast event. So i will try and update tomorrow. For others areas its more of the same dull and cloudy with the best of any brightness for Western areas. It will feel cooler than recent day with a South-Easterly breeze.

Further ahead the mild Atlantic air is likely to win, so more rain and windy weather for late Thursday into Friday. [/b]
