Rye flash flood 2005

4wd
 Share

In June 2005 a prolonged intense thunderstorm dumped at least 6 inches of rain on the moors around Hawnby in the space of 2 hours.

It's thought some of the high ground probably received at least double that amount.

This was taken at Blow Gill a couple of days later.

A huge amount of water surged through here, laced with tree debris and tumbling boulders which had probably not moved for centuries.
