Cotton Grass, Westerdale Moor

These are making a good show this year - last year was so horribly wet they almost went un-noticed.

The plant is found right into the high Arctic - so a real tough cookie - and the windswept moor here suits it well.

It prefers wetter areas, or rather can out-compete heather in more waterlogged patches.
