Langdale from Highwood Brow

4wd

A pretty view, and interesting geology.

The Derwent rises on the distant moorland, and flows east towards the nearby North Sea - but it's way is blocked by glacial debris and it turns abruptly south towards York and eventually reaches the North Sea in the Humber Estuary.

As a flood alleviation measure, a channel (known as 'Sea Cut') was made to take water direct to the coast near Scarborough when the level gets high.
