Main road over the moors
The Highways Department here are well practised at keeping these main roads over the North York Moors open - even in prolonged severe spells.
After making a narrow track through they repeatedy push the snow banks away with a 4x4 JCB style machine.
This stops the cleared road filling in to ever increasing depths as snow blows continuusly across the open moors for days on end even when it is not snowing.
