Whorlton Castle mid September
A good place for a bit of drone action as there are no close neighbours and it is somewhat elevated on a low hill. The main ruin is the gatehouse, only a cellar-like undercroft remains inside. The gatehouse was partly rebuilt at some point and was used as a farmhouse and barn. The site is privately owned and not kept secure so there has been some minor vandalism e.g. graffiti which is sad - however a greater long term danger is water penetration and movement in the foundation causing serious cracks in the masonry.
To the rear it looks like a wall has been used as target practice but a long time ago - it could have been musket balls.
