  1. 50mph sustained here now, making an absolute racket of a noise in and outside the house. top gust just over 71mph so far, thank goodness it got downgraded from the model runs of a few days ago
  2. rough evening here. sustained winds around 50mph now and gusting 71mph. very noisy and shaky house the night.
  3. Eva has all of a sudden gotten quite noisy in the last 40 minutes on the west coast of lewis. Average speed currently 43mph with top gust of 63mph about 10 minutes a go. Lots and Lots of rain, again.
  4. wet and windy out here in the hebrides yet again this evening, i dont think ive ever seen so much rain to be honest in the last 12 months, just dire. some remarkable conditions just in the last month too.
  5. looking quite nasty for us up here in the hebrides as we run into christmas eve, hopefully get the strength and track properly nailed down in the next 24 hours but its risking a direct hit. Needless to say good old SSE have their teams deployed across the islands in readiness.
  6. winds have ramped up very quickly here in the western isles, sustained winds just below 40mph gusting 60mph at the moment. Seems to be a very prone direction for us here on the west coast as its currently between 180 and 220degrees which makes for a lot of noise.
  7. seems to be dropping off now here on the isle of lewis. my top gust so far has been 74.8mph with a top sustained speed of 48.3mph. 23mm of rain so far today as well since 0900.
  8. cheers for the replies folks, i think, as most people do at some point, tend to err towards the davis kit but have always been put off by the price but maybe it can go on the new year pressie list
  9. Good morning folks, Any recommendations for a very robust anemometer (likely a whole new station therefore) that can survive the wind in the outer hebrides. I had finally calibrated my tfa nexus anemometer only to arrive home yesterday and find it upside down as the arm on which the direction vane and cups sit was rotated 180 degrees loose. In total it survived 4 weeks in what was rather ordinary if not intense winds for this part of the world, so Im looking to see if folk have any recommendations of equipment that can cope with sustained winds of 50mph+ gusting over 100mph. Cheerie. Craig.
  10. very rapid rise in temperatures here too on Lewis, some 6 or 7 c in easily 30-40minutes. Along with it came the heavy rain (19mm) so far and the squally winds (30mph sustained winds with gusts around 50mph)
  11. Yes indeedy. I've been following the modelling for this signal for about 6 days now when it was well out in FI, track will be interesting with a powerful jet sending it across us. Might be more than just a "drying day" for the washing for us up here. The sustained speeds are quite something, I don't think as bad as the jan storm this year but strong enough none the less.
  12. what is this snawwww folk talk of? It continues to be breezy, wet, really wet, damn wet out here in the Hebrides with everywhere you stand resembling a bog.
  13. good evening, quite a noisy one so far up here in the western isles. windy midday followed by a very dramatic lull and even some nice late evening sunshine out on the west coast here. Abigail making herself known now. I've had sustained winds of over 40mph for an hour or so now, top gust here off my station at 1812 was 66.7mph. Had a slight dropping off since then again in terms of the gusts but as i type there we go 63.1mph. could be an interesting night.
  14. What a beautiful end to the day..... Drove my wee train down to Balloch to be greeted with snow down to about 2000 feet, Ben Lomond looked stunning in the white stuff
  15. Been some very heavy rain so far tonight over glasgow although it seems the borders are taking a pounding if the radar is anything to go by
  16. some torrential rain over Glasgow tonight.. all that has been missing are the flashes and bangs. radar suggests that its even worse just south of us.
  17. Glencoe ski resort just recorded 111mph on their weather station
  18. Weird weather set up.... I hear the dog sled races at Aviemore are actually on snow this year through the forest and in the same breath Glencoe ski resort has just recorded a 111mph wind speed this morning and are currently stormbound by snow and wind.
  19. The 06z has been the coldest run for this weekend i think. From the 850s we are looking at munro level temps of about -3 to -6c depending on whether your east or west and on local conditions plus we have high pressure nudging in so we could see colder nights still. Most positive thing from the 06z run is it continues to back up the pattern change in about 5-7 days time which is closer to reliable time frame. All the ensemble members have moved from the 6c to -6c band and now in the long run they all fall sub zero to -12c which is a welcome trend.
  20. That word again.... super. Always switch off when I see it, especially when it's in places like the mail.
  21. flat roofs gone in glasgow today..... can't believe the wheelie bins survived though!
  22. kingston bridge closed in glasgow, not sure ive heard of that before with the wind
  23. colleagues at work are reporting 3 of our trains have been hit by trees with one igniting at westerton in Glasgow! stay safe folks and seriously dont travel!
