  1. Interesting video on met office re the tracking of the low on Tues evening
  2. I'm thinking of getting myself a life next winter. Just think of all those people out there without a care in the world and enjoying life as it happens.
  3. It all kicks off in about 6 hours. Countdown time. Tbh, in reality, I think most people will be sick of snow and freezing cold by the end of the week, and welcome some less cold conditions. Apologies to those who are perhaps not in the so called sweet spots
  4. My boss at work sent back bags of salt/grit two weeks ago. I said to him on Wednesday that we will need to get some again because of the cold and snow we are going to get next week. He looked at me as if I had gone stark raving mad. "Snow he said. Really??". A lot of other people at work were equally incredulous and disbelieving. Is this due to the general under reporting of this event by the media and particularly the BBC forecasts? I mean even the Daily Express today are headlining with "four inches!" Which for them is under sensational to say the least
  5. Louise Lear forecast on London regional weather was extremely underwhelming. Dry, but we "may, just may, see some snow Tues night into Wed. One to keep an eye on". Strange?
  6. How anyone could wish the US storm is strange? At least twelve people dead. I bet the bereaved families will hate snow with a vengeance for ever more
  7. How anyone could wish the US storm is strange? At least twelve people dead. I bet the bereaved families will hate snow with a vengeance for ever more
  8. Just looked up record max for December. 18.3 in Achnashellach, 2nd Dec 1948
  9. Yep, I agree with nearly everything you said here Daniel. Just not sure about a historical cold spell before the end of the decade? Only four more winters to go, so the odds are against us. But time will tell. But one thing's for sure, I don't know how the BBC weather presenters would come up with new superlatives if it did happen. I mean, they overhyped the latest "cold" spell. So I don't know what words instead of "bitter" they could use, if it really was bitter.
  10. You might be right. But at the end of the day the weather does what it does, independent of what we want or don't want. The winters have changed over the years for sure. I'm in my late forties so can remember the late 70s and 80s winters clearly. EVERY year had at least one big snow event in the South East without fail. With proper ice days, so the snow stuck around for a while too. Plus icicles, which you very rarely see these days. And ironically, without all the computer models, weathermen seemed so accurate with their forecast a few days ahead. Might be because we had proper Easterlies in place at the time, which probably made precipitation more easily to predict. OR I'm looking at things through rose tinted spectacles?
  11. I remember when it reached 19c in February. 1998 I think? It was sensational. Pub lunches in the garden and all that. Wonderful, wonderful
  12. Days like today just make you yearn for Spring. Not for more cold or snow....roll on Spring...had enough of winter now tbh
  13. That's good news then. A full programme of horse racing tomorrow. Frost is a pointless irritation tbh
  14. An unsceintific way of assessing how uncold the latest spell has been, is to see how many horserace meetings were called off in the UK. Not many is the answer. In proper cold spells racing is usually sidelined for all turf meetings and for at least a week or even a fortnight
  15. I make you right actually RJM. My birthday is in March and also the Cheltenham national hunt racing festival. So much nicer in spring like weather lol
