I'm thinking of getting myself a life next winter. Just think of all those people out there without a care in the world and enjoying life as it happens. -

It all kicks off in about 6 hours. Countdown time. Tbh, in reality, I think most people will be sick of snow and freezing cold by the end of the week, and welcome some less cold conditions. Apologies to those who are perhaps not in the so called sweet spots -

My boss at work sent back bags of salt/grit two weeks ago. I said to him on Wednesday that we will need to get some again because of the cold and snow we are going to get next week. He looked at me as if I had gone stark raving mad. "Snow he said. Really??". A lot of other people at work were equally incredulous and disbelieving. Is this due to the general under reporting of this event by the media and particularly the BBC forecasts? I mean even the Daily Express today are headlining with "four inches!" Which for them is under sensational to say the least -

Louise Lear forecast on London regional weather was extremely underwhelming. Dry, but we "may, just may, see some snow Tues night into Wed. One to keep an eye on". Strange? -
How anyone could wish the US storm is strange? At least twelve people dead. I bet the bereaved families will hate snow with a vengeance for ever more

Yep, I agree with nearly everything you said here Daniel. Just not sure about a historical cold spell before the end of the decade? Only four more winters to go, so the odds are against us. But time will tell. But one thing's for sure, I don't know how the BBC weather presenters would come up with new superlatives if it did happen. I mean, they overhyped the latest "cold" spell. So I don't know what words instead of "bitter" they could use, if it really was bitter. -

You might be right. But at the end of the day the weather does what it does, independent of what we want or don't want. The winters have changed over the years for sure. I'm in my late forties so can remember the late 70s and 80s winters clearly. EVERY year had at least one big snow event in the South East without fail. With proper ice days, so the snow stuck around for a while too. Plus icicles, which you very rarely see these days. And ironically, without all the computer models, weathermen seemed so accurate with their forecast a few days ahead. Might be because we had proper Easterlies in place at the time, which probably made precipitation more easily to predict. OR I'm looking at things through rose tinted spectacles? -

I remember when it reached 19c in February. 1998 I think? It was sensational. Pub lunches in the garden and all that. Wonderful, wonderful -

That's good news then. A full programme of horse racing tomorrow. Frost is a pointless irritation tbh -

An unsceintific way of assessing how uncold the latest spell has been, is to see how many horserace meetings were called off in the UK. Not many is the answer. In proper cold spells racing is usually sidelined for all turf meetings and for at least a week or even a fortnight -

Since last Wed night, I don't think I've seen so many sleet showers. Says it all really. The temperature just wasn't cold enough. Still enough time between now and early April for some snowy days. But probably the proper snow events have passed us by for this Winter. -

BBC weather just said as much about the snow showers. Dying out soon. But might be the odd one here and there till the early hours in Kent. Dreams of a streamer have been well and truly dashed. Be nice to do something different tomorrow rather than continuously looking at the radar lol -

Doesn't look like any more showers behind that Lowestoft to Southend band. Could be it, but who knows? -

The streamer looking more organised now on line between Lowestoft and Southend. They look to be heading for NW Kent/SE London. -

It would be interesting Tom if there was any precipitation left. But judging by the latest BBC weather, tomorrow PM will turn out to be "fine and dry" Yeah, you may be right there lol.... OK, I'll stay impartial, and just see what happens, thanks. -

I think everyone has wasted a of their precious time. And this is due to the ridiculous weather warnings by Met Office. Monday night after all will appear to be where the snow peaked. Today was meant to be a day of heavy snow showers for the South East. That got put back to tonight. And now that's been put back to never never land. I think I'll take another night off. Just not worth it -

Very poor weather forecast just now on BBC News 24. Not many showers tonight, not expecting any problems with snow cover, only ice. Drying up in the South East tomorrow afternoon, then dry from there on in....temperatures now predicted as 5c for Friday in South East. 2c predicted on the weather this morning! So even and Easterly can't get the temperature down lol. -

John Hammond's weather forecast on BBC didn't seem as good. Most of the showers tomorrow in Central England and not a lot covering the South East. Looks like it might be a repeat of Monday night? BBC Local Weather - most place dry overnight, but one or two showers tomorrow, which might be wintry. Laugh out bloody loud! I think this will all end in tears tbh. Definitely a big downgrade all round compared to yesterday's forecast. -

Philip Avery on the Radio 4 weather at 12.57pm seemed quite bullish about there being a chance of accumulations tomorrow as the snow showers move much more inland and become quite extensive. Sounded a really positive forecast. Didn't sound quite as positive about tonight though. We shall see. These snow showers should last Thursday night into Friday one would think?
