  1. Sleety snow in sheffield. Im guessing it would be rain in lower parts of the city.
  2. Sad to say Sheffield lost out big time. Sugar coating only. I hope Hudson gets some stick from Harry on look north this evening. Oh well at least weve had some intresting model and radar watching.
  3. Begining the transition in sheff. Sleet now. Getting more and more white blobs. Horay at last.
  4. In the north of sheff we have ended up with a respectable 8cm average covering. Similar readings across even some of the lower ground in the city. Pleased that we did so well even though it came from the west. Im now looking forward to next week...maybe!
  5. This is real snow is. Been heavy for the last couple of hours now resulting in a decent covering. Maybe 5cm or so! Happy overall. The clearance is showing on the radar and may be over us by 9ish but hopefully much later! Drove around the north of the city and can confirm roads are getting difficult.
  6. Still only light snow. A decent dusting now. Huddersfield halifax and sheff being stuffed by the hills to our west. Still hopefull for later. Leeds doing ok though!
  7. Light snow now. But ground mostly covered in sugar like coating. Im dreading the penine effect! Sheffield behind ski village.
  8. Small flakes but very visible falling and blowing in the wind. Light dusting now. Getting heavier but still light all the time. Started 20 mins ago. Hope the penine barrier doesnt scupper things. Sheffield..shirecliffe (just behind the ski slope)
  9. What do people just to the east of the peninnes make of the potential rain shadow effect? If u look at the nae precip accumulation charts they clearly show less precip over south yorks and parts of west yorks. Even the snow depth maps show less snow in those areas with it turning green (i.e. no snow) in 36 hrs whilst around us is covered! Maybe we shouldnt read into the finer detail for now but experiance from my location even at 160m in Sheffield suggests snow from the west is difficult given the shelter of the hills. Our saving grace may be the triple point creating a circulation that pulls in winds from a more variable point in which case it should be better. Any thoughts most appreciated. Sheffield 160m
  10. Hi Andy, Yes, I'm actually in Shireciffe myself -right on top of the hill. Its wierd to see the fine snow turning to sleet and then rain go down the hill. And your right as you come up, theres a mist but I think I'm a little lower than you are so I dont have the rime, there was rime around crosspool for sure. Im looking forward to Wednesday now anticipating that snow to prehaps send a few showers ahead of it here. Again we will have a Southeast wind which helps us. If you look at the bbc graphics that are based on the NAE model they do show snow showers for Wednesday. Steady
  11. Some Pics of the snow in Sheffield. The city centre has a covering of a few inches still but just go out of the centre and you are greeted with scences like those below. It's been snowing all morning / afternoon here - light to moderate. Sleet in the city centre now but still snow here, but the sort that makes existing snow melt a little now. Given the volume of snow after the warnings were downgraded, one can only imagine the scences here if the orignal warning had played out.. These should give you a real idea of just how good things still are in Sheffield (out of the city centre). The radr's been showing nothing most of the time - maybe its something to do with Sheffield being in an ideal location in this kind of set up for organ.... (whatever its called) lift. Pics taken around crosspool area - just past the uniy. Sheffield 160m
