  1. Still light snow falling here in a steady easterly despite radar showing nothing overhead. Had about 3cm last night but gutters are dripping, so some melt going on. Just measured 13cms total on Patio table whereas there only about 7cm on the grass....which indicates it must be melting due to warmer ground temps?... Looks like a frost due tonight according to gfs so could be some tricky conditions on untreated surfaces later.
  2. Hi, This taken from the Met Office warning seems to confirm what your saying? Lets hope so! Chief Forecaster's Assessment Complex frontal features are affecting parts of the south through Tuesday. With flow becoming more northeasterly through the day much colder air will be drawn into the system and increase the snow risk and the area likely to be affected. There is still a fair degree of uncertainty in the detail and there may be further adjustments to the warning as events unfold. 3. Just back from walking dog across the snow fields, what a lovely change from the mud and puddles of late! A good 4 to 5 inches in the fields. Been steadily snowing for past two hours with small flakes but also with a watery sun occasionally showing through the low cloud..nice effect. Considering I'm at nearly the most easterly extent of the precip, surprised by the density of it to be honest. Snow settling on existing snow quite happily but struggling to settle on paths etc. looking at the gfs 06z precip charts, looks like it should intensify later, mainly in south east though...looking good for those folks. Edit....snow lighter now. temp 1.0c
  4. Morning all, not been out yet but just under an inch of snow on the ground here and steady smallish flakes falling. On the radar, it looks like the heavier stuff has yet to get this far. Should be a good day! Now to try and get the car up our sloping drive for work:( Got to head for Tewkesbury....A417 going to be interesting later!
  5. Woken up to about 0.5 cm covering on the decking, looking at the radar must have come from a shower that passed through an hour or two ago....nice surprise! Rain to wash it away today I think. Then a nice hard frost!
  6. Got to agree with this. It's looking a bit marginal especially the further south and west you are for the early part of next week. A lot of people will see some snow falling, wether it settles will be location/height dependant. Trying to keep my expectations low....maybe I'll nicely suprised that way.. Lets hope the further effects of the ongoing SSW fall in our favour later in the month! Currently 4.4 C in a raw easterly, dry for now.
  7. Morning Good 3 -5 cms around west of Swindon, and had to do a job down in Chippenham, M4 was a bit slushy and the A350 into Chippenham was a dodgy around 1am. Main roads should be ok later I reckon. Car Thermo been at -1C all night. Will it hang about for long I wonder?
  8. Light fine flakes started here now, overcast skies temp 0.4c RH at60%. must be the warm front arriving. Anybody know where the occlusion line is going to be?
  9. Afternoon all, This was a pic taken about an hour ago of the snow shower that we had here....massive flakes, very suprised considering not great elevation here... did turn more sleety later, not settling of course. Has raised my hopes for Early Friday now...as long as the trajectory of the low stays south of here. Rather have the snow than stormy winds thanks!
  10. First storm of the year here too! Five or six flashes and loud thunder, about a mile away or so.Torrential rain for 20mins now easing. Quite a band of showers/storms moving ENE now. More to come perhaps?
  11. Morning, Its Wednesday, it must be snow day! Had to clear a good centimetre from the car this morning, drove into Swindon, slushy roads in town.Car thermo reading -1C but thats usually a degree too low. Steady moderate/ heavy stuff falling, any elevation should see it stick well (re birdlip hill closed southbound according to beeb).
  12. Morning all, Yep, can confirm that we have about the same (about 3 miles west of you) I`ve just finished a night shift and the roads around Swindon were tricky to say the least, completely covered in snow, no sign of gritters last night. Still steady light snow atm. This event seems to have dumped at least as much as last weeks!
  13. Blimey another thread! Only about a 1 cm max top up here, looks like its in for the night though.Too light at the mo to add much.Think it will turn to rain during the morning. On call too. Are the roads ok around Swindon?
  14. Thanks, Should be at least enough to top up the slight thaw we had today. You should see it a bit earlier than me and probably more with your elevation.
  15. Afternoon all, Been an avid reader in here for past week...Nice friendly bunch compared to some threads! Waiting patiently here in North Wilts for it to kick off tonight,12z gfs seems to keep the snow around a bit longer/heavier than previous runs.Turning to rain later tomorrow? Peeps in wales thread having blizzard conditions now. Cheers WOTS
