  1. Are you sure that's Snowdon? Looks suspiciously like Northern Ireland what with all that snow.
  2. Given our temperate climate here in the UK, I'd suggest it's supposed to be mild in the winter.
  3. I seem to remember the first half of summer 2009 as being good in this neck of the woods. Wimbledon fortnight had plenty of glorious weather. Second half was poor.
  4. Met Office blamed for what and by whom? If it isn't as severe as it might've been, almost everyone will be mightily pleased and relieved. Surely preferable to be prepared then reprieved than the other way around.
  5. If Joe is a professional meteorologist then his own preferences shouldn't have any bearing whatsoever on any forecasts he produces.
  6. I'm looking forward to not having to mow the lawn. That's about the only thing winter's good for in my view.
  7. Mild and dry please with plenty of sunshine. Don't mind a touch of early frost so long as it warms up nicely during the day. And all done by the end of February; spring 2013 was deeply unpleasant.
  8. Check in again any time between late November and early March and you'll discover that we're on the verge of a record-breaking cold spell.
  9. Back to back good summers: 75/76, 83/84, 89/90, 05/06 Might be able to squeeze 95/96 in too. 95 was a peach and 96 though not as good had its moments. Hopefully we'll be able to add 13/14 this time next year.
  10. You're not stating a fact, you're making a prediction. The weather in the coming weeks hasn't happened yet.
  11. I realise that March and April aren't summer months, technically or otherwise. I was responding to your suggestion that since 2006, March and April were winter-like.
  12. What about April 2007, April 2011 and March 2012? Each of those months contained lengthy spells that were as sunny and warmer than the first third of this month (in this neck of the woods at least).
  13. I'm starting a whip-round with a view to sending laserguy off to South Georgia for the next three months. As an inducement to potential contributors it should be known that Internet connectivity on the island is very intermittent.
  14. To each his own of course but I'd happily take 30c every day of the year.
  15. Yep, after two very good summers on the bounce (83 & 84), summer 85 was poor. But two out of three here in the UK ain't too shabby and post 2006 seems barely believable.
  16. Yeah, I don't remember summers 91 thru 94 as being particularly bad, just nondescript as I said. Thing is I'm a big fan of heat and sunshine so an average summer doesn't set the pulse a-racin'.In my neck of the woods both July and August 1990 were very good; seems like a very long time since we had two good summer months on the bounce.
  17. If memory serves there was a run of decidedly nondescript summers in the early 90s bookended by a couple of beauties in 90 and 95. I'd happily take a repeat of either of those.
  18. Average would be average. If, like me, one enjoys warmth and sunshine, an average summer isn't anything to get excited about albeit preferable to the last two horror shows. I'm hoping for a way above average summer but certainly not expecting one.
  19. The first halves of summers 2009 and 2010 were actually very good (in this part of the country at least). Summers 2007, 08, 11 and '12 were indeed crap but I doubt whether four out of six UK summers being poor in any period would be especially unusual.
  20. A perfect summation of the climate we endure here in the UK. 'twas ever thus and ever thus shall be.
  21. Do you know whether Lyneham Banks is passable at the mo? Gotta get across to Calne from here in Somerfords a bit later. Guessing it might be a bit dodge. 12cm level lying presently, still snowing and blowing around nicely too. Not as good as mid December 2010 but most acceptable all the same.
  22. Hi all. What I'm especially looking forward to on Friday is the prospect of seeing heavy snow during daylight hours. Last few decent snowfalls in my neck of the woods (three in 2009/10, mid-December 2010 and early February 2009 if memory serves) all happened overnight. Great to wake up to of course but had fizzled out pretty much by first light. Looks like this one'll be a bit different. Here's hoping.
