  1. I'm disappointed I'm missing the build up and also the actual event. The escalation of headlines has been highly amusing from the Express if it wasn't for the fact the general public lap it up. I assume the only way from here is for the Express on Sunday to issue warnings of an imminent sharknado!
  2. I suppose also there is a lot of money to be made with sensationalist forecasts making it to the media and peoples memory of the last couple of winters. Hopefully seeing as I haven't bought one yet I'll get snowed in somewhere as I'm sure the opposite would be true.
  3. Wouldn't life be so much simpler if water froze at 5*C? It would be interesting to see how the population of this thread compares over recent years. I'd hazard a guess that more people are visiting here earlier each year following recent good winters. This naturally leads to a longer period of time between viewing what outputs we have and the actual time period of winter. This can only cause greater uncertainty and worry that winter may hold hold what we all wish for. Hopefully a few things will start to drop into place over the next 4-6 weeks and enjoy the rollercoaster till then.
  4. Well 24 hours later at 18cmlevel in Dartford. Certainly beats the Feb 09 level. Interestingly enough the streamer keeps coming. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ Quite broad in it's approach. I thought it would die out a long time ago but still quite heavy at times. Might see an inch or two more overnight and the forecasts seem to keep it coming through Wednesday with possibly heavier snow approaching the south east on Thursday. Don't think this depth will be beaten in a long time here.
  5. Just started here so only a dusting so far. Finally leaving the no snow club behind. . Looks like we could have a bit more overnight with a Thames streamer of such though its difficult to say how long it will last. Anything similar to Feb 09 would be nice but doubting that very much. Saying that Phil Avery on the BBC sounded almost worried ealier on the 10:27 forcast on N24. Looking good for those of you up north still and wish I was there.
  6. If I'm going for the 'ideal' though not quite in the realms of reality for where I live in the UK then it would have to be waking up, heading downstairs for a coffee, drawing back the curtains and being faced with a window full of settled snow and having to dig a hole to get out of the door. (those photos in the gallery of the Lion Inn are amazing)!!! Anyhow, before I get sent on a snowholics anonymous rehab trip to Alice Springs, I suppose I had best join the real world. An amazing day would be something akin to the forecast of 91 above. Too many times in recent history the snow that has come my way has been in the form of sporadic showers with only few being heavy for an hour or so at a time. Another way to get my snow fix would be a forecast the night before of rain from the west pushing a cold high pressure out of the way to the east actually turning out to be a stalled front for hours on end before the high wins out and packs the atlantic off with it's tail between it's legs. That would do very nicely. Here's hoping!
  7. Hi, Just thought I would post the below. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact date I took this but I believe it was April 2007. The location was around 10 miles west of Cambridge when i first noticed the cloud. The temperature according to the car was 6 degrees. I crossed the path of the storn just about a mile or so outside Cambridge. The temperature dropped to zero from 6 degrees within a mile and a half of the cloud and the centre and you can see the dusting it left within the space of minutes. The wind had picked up from almost nothing to quite strong as well underneath the cloud. Unfortunately no sooner than the cloud appeared it left over the fields and the snow rapidly melted on the originally warm ground. I've never seen a single cell like this before or since so any explanation would be very interesting.
