  1. If you look at the Arras webcam - they are doing very well right now. Arras is about an hour south of Calais. It seems that further south and east, it's a real mess, with people warned to stay off the roads in Luxembourg, and Frankfurt airport is mostly closed due to ice. Webcams | ARRAS.FR WWW.ARRAS.FR
  2. I checked the France Meteo website and the Nord Pas-de-Calais is under a snow warning, whereas everything to the South is under a freezing rain/snow warning. The description states that some areas will start as snow, switch to freezing rain, then back to snow. For the Pas-De-Calais, they are estimating up to 20cm of snow, as it will stay as all snow. Sounds like it could be a real travel mess. 100 Miles north...and it could have been us!
  3. Went out with the dog at 3.8c and came back at 1.4c, transitioned to heavy wet snow and strong gusty winds. Currently 1.1c with DP 0.3c
  4. Had a good covering of snow at about 0630, but now temperature is up to 2.1c, and large chunks are falling off my solar panels, which is freaking out the cats. Hope that the slush melts during the day before a hard freeze tonight.
  5. -1.1c and -3.2c DP - heaviest snow of the spell so far. Thick flakes and lots of them, seems to be train of showers crossing the SE corner of the M25.
  6. -1.9c/-4.7c - had a few flurries this morning, but nowe we have quite heavy snow. Thick flakes and quite a still wind. Unexpected bonus.
  7. Temp rose to -2.3c overnight, but now back at -2.6c with a DP of -3.9c. Had to escort my wife to the main road in my car this morning - our village doesn't get gritted. Very icy and about 3-4cm of powdered snow on top. Drove towards Orpington and some roads were better than others. Court Road from Hewitt's roundabout to Chelsfield was good, but after that, it got covered in drifting snow. Now been out with the mutt, and the snow is moderate and steady, but flakes are much bigger now. If this keeps up, we will get a good covering today. The main streamer seems just to the north, but this is already the heaviest I have seen since Sunday afternoon.
  8. Last night, about 10pm, checked the weather report from Biggin Hill - 'Low drifting snow', which summed it up perfectly. Parts of the local field where I walk the dog were in drifts up to my shins.
  9. -3c and DP of -4.1c here, with moderate snow. Been out with the car to check the road, and untreated surfaces are lethal. The rain yesterday morning froze and then got covered in snow, which has all compacted. The bin lorry decided not to even attempt our little slope - fair enough. Looks like this is going to continue for much of the day.
  10. T -3.3c/DP -4.2c - we are by the SE corner of the M25, and we have heavy snow again. I think the roads may be a problem in the morning.
  11. The temp has dropped a little to -1.0c and now the snow has intesified, and the wind has picked up. Drifting around and blowing off roofs and trees.
  12. Temp -0.9c and DP -1.5c. Been for a 2 hour walk with the mutt, we have seen every type of snow. We descended around 40-50m, and noticeable that snow was less dense. On the way back up here, had a brief blizzard with gusty winds and blowing heavy big flaked snow. Now we have steady snow, but flakes are quite small. We are pushing 5cm and none of the drip, drip drip we normally get. It's also noticeable how this snow is sticking to trees and gates, and it was quite crunchy and icy on the gates and fences. Can see snow blowing off neighbours roofs, and already grass covered in drifts.
  13. -0.3c/-0.8c and moderate snow here now. Flakes need to get bigger, but the wind is picking up.
  14. Finally starting to settle on cars and some grass T 0.5c DP -0.1c. Heavy preciptiation, mostly snow now.
  15. Temp now 4.9c, so the interest starts. Radar looks very wet for the next few hours.
  16. The Metoffice warning got extended West this morning and now just includes us. We did very well out of the December 2010 streamer, so not too surprised, especially with a bit of altitude. We seem to have topped out at 6.2c, will be watching the radar tonight.
  17. Temp 1.7c / DP 0.9c - drizzle here - if it gets heavier, then who knows?
  18. 0.8c/-1.4c here and snow blowing around. Wind has got up. The main band is just about to arrive.
  19. down to 3.8c/3.3c - i think we aren't going to see any wintriness this far south today.
  20. Temp now 5.3c from 8.7c at 0645. 16mm of rain since midnight and the fields are totally sodden. Going to be a miserable day, and I think we have too far to fall to get any snow out of it.
  21. Yes, my garden still has a covering from yesterday morning and no sign of it disappearing. Today never got above 0.5c, so not much melted.
