  1. According to the latest tweets on #uksnowmap it would seem that the south coast is being hit with snow first? Wasn't everyone saying earlier that the south would be lucky to get any? What does this mean for us folk further north then?
  2. Hail, sleet, rain, sleet, rain...... near Frome, Somerset, just a few minutes ago
  3. Oh my dear god those poor horses in that video Spoke to friends who live west of Gympie (Sunshine Coast), they are dairy farmers and haven't really been affected, although 15 acres of their land has flooded three times in the last week. My friend's uncle & aunt were driving into Toowoomba just as the "tsunami" wall of water was coming through, but thankfully they were able to turn around very quickly and get out of harm's way. Ugh, this is all so sick and saddening. I wish I could fly back home and help out somehow
  4. A friend in Toowoomba just told me that there are now reports of Bullsharks are making their way into the Brisbane and Ipswich areas, also sewerage is now contaminatinging some waters. I was wondering how long it would be before there were shark sightings
  5. Read more: http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/floodrelief/stay-off-brisbane-river-locals-warned-amid-queensland-floods-crisis/story-fn7ik2te-1225985852937#ixzz1Aj7xf0Su I read somewhere today that people were trapped in a house and were heard screaming as it floated downstream. And one of those massive milk vats was washed away from a dairy farm. Saw video footage of cars being swept away in Toowoomba. If anything of this proportion happens in Sydney the death toll could well be in the thousands, especially in the Penrith & Blacktown local government areas as they are built on floodplain and are the closest to Warragamba Dam.
  6. Forgot to add, I was living in the Blue Mtns in December 2002 and my house was at a very high risk of being burnt down by the bushfires that were raging through the Blue Mtns National Park. Alot of people lost their homes including a guy I knew, he was out helping as a volunteer in the fire brigade putting out fires near people's homes and he came home to find his own had burned to the ground. I can clearly recall that while we were having searing heat, roaring winds and flying embers, my boyfriend (at the time) was doing a solo hike (near Mt Twynam I think) in Kosciusko National Park and he phoned me from his tent to say that he was okay but he was stuck in a blizzard  So we were experiencing totally different weather extremes only a few hundred miles apart.
  7. I think there may have been some snowfall in Katoomba, at least that is what my parents told me yesterday and they live in Western Sydney. Katoomba is in the Blue Mountains which are just west of Sydney, about 1-1.5hrs drive. It has been known to snow up there, in fact I was there in September/October and we experienced some sleet. But the current snow falls of 11 inches would be down in the Snowy Mountains, where Mt Kosciusko is. Both the Snow Mts and the Blue Mts are in NSW but they are about 600-700km away from each other.
