  1. not quite, just about to leave work in central London and drive back to n. Kent. It was tricky enough getting at 11pm, at least the snow has stopped here at London Bridge. Goodnight - now you might be the last..
  2. using a search engine for the 68 hurricane ( as we called it then) http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/61837-the-great-storm-of-january-1968/page__view__findpost__p__1788690 link to the synoptic of that night, thanks netweather history
  3. A history lesson. http://www.weatheron...LE=extra_ne.tit I was there - bloody scary stuff. Glass windows bowing in the face of the wind. A bin flying along the street at head heigh - at 30+ mph I guess. A prefab "Marley" garage toppling like dominos - the roof flying free, no trace to ever be seen again. As boys though we were jealous of a neighbour that got a tree through his roof and into the bedroom. But, there were 20 killed - just keep a sense of perspective those wishing for higher wind speeds in their area. Any similarities with this upcoming event? Then we had a low of 956mB across the North of Scotland.
  4. damn, I cancelled Monday ferry to Islay and rebooked for Tuesday midday.. - that'll be the exposed part just above N Ireland
  5. Malin Head - 96mph (PS surprisingly , I've cancelled 1800 Monday ferry to Islay ) praying for Islay max 35 mph midday Tuesday
  6. I'll check back with you on that when I'm back home on Islay on Tuesday afternoon (CalMac willing) Mind you my father would always call any winds up to about Storm force as "a bit breezy"
  7. Cancelled the Monday afternoon ferry - sleeping in the car on the pier was never my favourite way of spending a night on the west coast. Thanks netweather. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=uk7dayx7;page=4;ct=~PA42 7BQ;sess=#forecast lets hope the slates are still on the roof when I get home Tuesday
