Ive heard estimates of up to 30,000 may have stayed behind riding out the storm.

Just been talking to a girl near Houston who is planning to ride the Hurricane out in a Trailer..thats right, a TRAILER, told her its not the best of ideas and have said to go to shelter points as soon as possible. I suspect for many it will be their first Hurricane and thus they have no idea what there in for.

Steve just beat me to it, the only saving grace for Galveston Island/Texas City is that IKE makes a sudden right hand turn at the last minute. However as each hour passes this is looking unlikely to happen. Also just to point that due to the funnelling effect, although people are quoting 20ft surge height, due to the funnelling i'd expect an extra 5ft on top of this plus the waves aswell.

If thats now bad enough, its low tide aswell.

Coastal areas of Galveston already under water, I expect the reason why wave heights are so high right now is due to the outbanding of IKE, the fact its not a compact storm but rather what is known as a "blowout" storm means a lot of energy is being dissipated outwards aswell as being fed inwards. 20ft wave heights already coupled with the surge means I expect to see a surge of 25ft+ hitting the coast.

Looking at the Satellite loop it seems Gustav is now tracking due West along the coastline.

Perhaps Because the storm surge is 12ft in height and the land is at sea level..go figure lol.

Hurricanes usually quiten down during the night hours as the convection is limited until the next morning, I should expect to see Gustav strengthen to CAT4 again within the next 8 hours.

What about the shadow the cloaked object would be casting though?, Its still a solid physical object so if there was a shadow cast then it wouldnt really be invisible as theres a physical sign that something is there.

Just saw Totality on the live feed, it was impressive (still doesnt beat being there in person though), couldnt see any sign of the Sungrazing Comet however, took some on-screen snapshots too.

Same weather here but ive just been fortunate enough to have a couple of seconds between the clouds to view Partiality, quite impressive now but im sure would look even better on the centreline in Russia soon.

Been rvised down now to a 6.1, depth was 6 miles underground and occured ESE of the city (exactly on the spot where the mid-atlantic ridge comes to the surface.

6.7 quake has hit about 30 miles from Reykjavik.

In 40 days the Hadron Collider will be up and running and soon hopefully be operational giving its first results in a matter of months. One thing thats bothered me though is this.. The universe came from a singularity point (wether this had infinite mass is still debateable) and there was basically nothing else outside of this singularity, no time, no space, nothing. The scientists hope to re-create the moments of the big bang on a minute scale, but the way there doing this is irrelevant because the big bang wasnt created by 2 particles fired at each other because there was only 1 singularity point. Plus theres already time and space outside around the explosion so the mechanics of how the universe was created will be innacurate. Just something Ive been wondering about to myself all day. Basically all the scientists are doing (to me it seems) is firing 2 particles at each other and seeing how the explosion looks like, but the whole point is to re-enact the big bang scientifically when infact there doing the experiment by methods that didnt happen at the beginning of time and space.

Im starting to think perhaps Volcanic activity..that report of snow in the last one could possibly be mistaken for ash perhaps?

Ive seen Ball Lightning myself and had I been any other person I wouldnt have recognised what it was and instantly put it down to a UFO. These flying triangles have now been put down to a UAV which is operating out of Warton I believe and most people wouldnt recognise phenomenon that people like us would understand (Irdium flares, Halo's etc.) Just because a object is "Unidentified" doesnt automatically mean its a rocket-ship powered by little green men, I think the term has been misinterpreted throughout the media to make people that that a UFO is actually Aliens when infact its more more likely to be explainable.

I understand the recent eruption in Chile is from a Caldera crater which has a lava cone built up over millions of years of activity, should the cone plug up anythime then I would have serious worries for the surrounding community. Im having a really good guess that volcanologists are already recording ground movement to determin just how much lava there could be underneath the Volcano.

Ive seen one or two of these by accident, however whenever I purposely try and see them in never successful, despite looking in the area 2/3 minutes before and after they are due (and yes my co-ordinated ASL, Times are right.) Once you see one you'll never forget how bright they can get.

Scientists generally believe Earthquakes come in swarms, rather than just random places as previously thought and teached in schools. A Earthquake will occur and this puts more stress on the plate further along it, this in turn ruptures and so the cycle begins until the plate has released the stress. Scientists can predict almost where a quake might happen (in a region) but not the exact epicenter or strength..infact Istanbul is believed to have a mjaor Earthquake sometime soon as a result of the Turkish Earthquakes which happened in the mid 1990's, the swarms are transferring Westwards towards the City and is thought will occur somewhere offshore Istanbul.
