  1. Steady light snow around Forfar and Kirriemuir area last half hour giving a white covering as ground so cold. It’s the first snow as missed out on the showers last few days.
  2. Norrance not sure about milder layer but having driven across Dundee and up through Angus about an hour ago, I noticed several temperature changes over short distances. At western edge of Dundee it was at -0.5 degrees then over central and eastern Dundee it rose up to +1.5 degrees and then north into Angus dropped to -2 degrees. Seems more like cold pools of air quickly ‘stirred’ out as breeze picks up as showers come through.
  3. A few light snow flurries coming through inland Angus now A light dusting settling on roofs and cars, perhaps a white Christmas morning to come after all.
  4. I would agree, the ‘blob’ up around Dundee/Angus has been very slow moving over the last hour and other showers coming on shore seem to catch up and ‘extend’ the original blob. Certainly has made for a bit of a snaw fest this afternoon, although it’s getting a bit difficult for anyone who needs to travel (essential workers) around the Dundee/Angus area. Be safe folks.
  5. Certainly inland over Angus it’s sticking and boy is it impressive in its intensity when you get a shower albeit brief. As already mentioned convergence line of showers now jogging south and will clear Angus next hour or so I recon. I’m still intrigued however by that cluster of showers off the north east coast of Aberdeen. It doesn’t look like a new convergence line but quite a specific form of showers or something which is creating a radar return. Will it intensify and where is it heading?
  6. Thanks guys I think I understand. I do remember the point about graupel and risk re avalanche conditions when I did my winter hill navigation training but didn’t recall what caused it to form in the first place.
  7. We have had quite few brief but intense showers today (the kind that all goes dark and blizzard like moment ) but I’m intrigued as to why has every one of them been mostly graupel apart from the very end of the shower when it changes to dry fluffy snow flakes. Temps are below freezing as are wb so not like that’s a problem. What are the conditions that cause precipitation to fall as graupel most every time today?
  8. Not sure as it’s already about level with Aberdeen now and there is still quite a southwards drift which can be seen when you run animation. May end up with most of that line of showers coming in just south between Aberdeen and Stonehaven.
  9. MWB I’m just north of Dundee and can confirm your first 2 pictures/charts (radar) are most accurate to what’s happening right now.
  10. You might be in luck soon, looks like a few heavier showers coming in just about in line with your part of Fife in the next half hour. Be interesting to hear if that helps pull the temp down for you.
  11. Yes, up here in Angus, early light showers now becoming more organised and heavier. You can see on the radar the separation now of individual cells coming on shore. Didn’t take long for those lower dew points to suck the moisture of sodden ground surfaces, ‘dry’ snow now blowing about in the wind in the heaviest showers.
  12. Blizzard like conditions over the last 40 minutes around Dundee and South Angus areas. As it was peak time for folks heading to work, it's all got a bit chaotic on the roads as cars get stuck on hills around Dundee streets and some accidents on main roads from Perth and Angus. Be interesting to see if showers keep reaching this far east throughout the day or shift back west again.
  13. It's a tad wild just to the North of Dundee and up into Angus, some light graupel showers rolling in but the real problem is the strong winds are causing problems due to drifting. Inside lane of south bound A90 Forfar to Dundee road now has several drifts encroaching on to carriageway. Several B roads around the county now having problems caused by drifting and cars and buses getting stuck and blocking roads. So more problems this morning and that's without much snow falling from the sky, just coming sideways off the fields.
  14. Can't believe the amount of snow today around Dundee area and up into Angus. It's still going strong with heavy falls and sticking to main roads as well as side roads. It's been a pleasant surprise as I expected it to turn more sleety second half of today, instead been heaviest sustained falls which sticks so far this winter. Not looking forward to fast thaw and stormy wet weather next week.
  15. Snow just not stopped for hours in and around Dundee and its been lying so accumulations building. To the North end of city the roads are now a real mess and traffic is struggling even worse as you head further out of the city towards Perth or up into Angus. Going to be horrible when it turns to rain and all goes to mush. For now its gotta be best snow fall (for sticking) so far this winter around Dundee.
