  1. Happy New Year to everyone. Clear frosty morning here but no snow on the ground , the hills are snow covered. As usual, this neck of the woods misses out on the sort of heavy precipitation that many other parts of Scotland have recently been experiencing. The only time, in my recollection over the last 17 years living here, this area had severe impacts of heavy rainfall combined with violent winds was on 26 October 2006, just a few months after we moved here! Many sane people would be relieved with that, but as a weather nerd, I feel deprived. Does anybody on the forum recall that event?
  2. Can anybody explain why the local met office forecast for the next 7 days constantly forecast wind direction between WSW and NW when we are supposedly getting winds from the North and trending towards the East? Could this be taking account local geography relating to our position by the Cromarty Firth?
  3. Yet another benign, boreing anticyclonic month, particularly for the bulk of England. 6.6 degrees and 35mm precipitation.
  4. Ah! Starting to pick up now after squally shower. Nothing exceptional yet, we get more up here in summer! .
  5. Still no noticeable wind here in Invergordon. Trees and shrubs are barely moving. BBC weather app says gusts of 48h now., but more like 10 at present. All I can say is that it may strike very suddenly. Is this happening anywhere e”she?
  6. Where is the storm? It is dead calm and not raining here now here in Invergordon! Is this all hype or do I live in a climate bubble? Probably regret this post later as my roof blows off! TBH I rather suspected this would happen here as we usually miss out on severe weather here due to our sheltered location from Atlantic weather.
