  1. yeah I think the days of deep lying snow here apart from freak occurrences are over.
  2. yeah im the top of hazelhurst near the school. Not looking for knee deep thats once a lifetime and its happened but just some snow to go sledging would be nice. i used to live on smallshaw and we do better than we did there but last few years we been lucky to see snow falling nevermind lying.
  3. I'm based in Ashton-U-Lyne just under 200m above sea level but we have barely seen any snow for 10 years I think my daughter has been sledging once as we just have not had snow where we are due to the hills around Manchester for our shadow unless we get a irish sea streamer in a very specific direction or a very strong easterly/north easterly that makes it over the hills (2009/2010 style) we just dont get snow that even lies despite our height in other words, if its cold enough to snow it wont snow, but its its warm enough to rain we will get rain rain and more rain. Someone explained its to do with the upward movement when the air is colder but i cannot remember the exact reason for this happening
  4. Hoping that at the top of Ashton-u-Lyne on the ridge of Hartshead Pike i might get lucky today and not be affect by the snow shield. My daughter is nearly 11 now and never had snowfall here enough to go sledging at 200m asl crazy when you think about it!
  5. starting to get heavier here near hartshead pike ashton. lets see if that big area makes it here in the next hour!
  6. heavier snow here in ashton now, 50p flakes. been snowing for a good while now
  7. snow here again in ashton, wonder if that band will get us here or if im a touch too south to get hit
  8. snizzle here too in ashton but getting heavier as i type
  9. Dreaded words I dont want to hear where I am. the dreaded shadow - its the snow equivalent of Voldemort for us in east Manchester
  10. Just wanna express my thanks as always to everyone for their insights in this thread! The Mod thread is impossible to follow for us not in the south and the input of many members in here have been excellent and invaluable!
  11. at least an hour for me of drizzle rather than rain. still a sleety mix here with snow in heavier bursts that are not sticking as too wet
  12. Im guessing tonight's event will be half a mile up the road as usual! Sitting at 140m asl I can often see the snow line! Next house I buy is gonna be over one hill further east!
  13. Heavy snow in Ashton under Lyne. Looks to have started sticking in the last hour. Bout 2 cm on car roof ATM at 150m asl
