  1. Two cells moved through here about 40 minutes ago and lasted 20 minutes or so, with another one that was approaching from the southwest but has taken a westerly track now (guess it's heading over towards the Royal Forest of Dean. The two earlier cells were very active with 20-30 flashes per minute from each of them. Mostly IC and only saw a couple of CG's from my vantage point. Tried to take a few photos but since this is a built up area there's lots of light pollution... now if only the power had gone out!
  2. Had torrential rain for about 25 minutes and a few rumbles of thunder... storm has intensified further but moved off now... There's constant rumbling coming from my north now (guess the storm is probably between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury somewhere)... unfortunately the "lightning picture" I'm still sorely after has escaped me again... had my finger on the 'fire' button, AF set, but my camera went into power save mode just as the lightning flashed! ... since then there's been no visible CG lightning although there's still constant loud thunder from the storm. Only wish this were a night storm... I'd lock the cam on a 8 second exposure and just keep taking pics for an hour or so hoping that I'd get a shot! Maybe my lightning shot just isn't meant to be... still, on the bright side, before the storm broke I got some nice convection pictures to go in my gallery later!
  3. Heavy rain from 00:40 - 01:15 - thunder heard 01:00 - 01:25 - IC lightning from 01:00 - 02:00. Only peaked at about 1 flash every 4 or 5 minutes however, and the thunder was bearly audible.
  4. Doh! missed probably the best storm of the summer stuck in work... Did see it go very very dark outside, and when I left work the main road was flooded to about 5 inches (12.5 cms) - just hate it when motorists don't slow down and give you a soaking; if the storm doesn't get you, the drivers will! Now I've got home, and the thunder and lightning have abaited Still waiting for a good night-storm so I can have a chance of getting some photos, but that sort of storm seems to be elusive for this part of Gloucestershire at the moment...
  5. Thanks for making me feel even more jealous of the areas having the sun!
  6. Well, I'm left wondering where summer has gone in Gloucester (although looking at the satellite cloud cover maps I suspect I'm not alone). We've not had the sun poke through the cloud cover here since Saturday! Add on to that the fact that we missed all of the storms last week, it's been a pretty nondescript end of July so far I just hope that the heat and sun that's being forecast for the end of this week actually appears since I'm in the middle of a week-off just now, and to date I've not seen a single ray of sunshine!
