Hi, I've got a problem, in this case related with GFS analysis. I've downloaded several files from the ftp for the GFS-ANL_004 (0.5º x 0.5º resolution) (, and when I open the files with CDO I find that there is no data for meridional wind, and yes for u and w wind components, and another 12 variables. Why? Is this because v-wind must be calculated? Thanks

Hi everybody, First of all, sorry for my english, I'm not a English-speaking. I'm developing a model based in analog method for a project at university; and my predictand is surface wind. My problem is to choose the appropiate predictor fields, so what do you think are the best atmospheric predictor fields for this predictand?(if you have references please post them). For those who don't know this method, my question is in short: which are the atmospheric fields that are more related with surface wind? (NOTE: their mutual dependence should be small, to avoid a great overlap in information). Thank you.
