  1. They just mentioned the lovely weather during the 2020 lockdown in the Big Brother house! Clearly still a talking point!
  2. The good weather helped people cope with isolation better I think. Although we lived in a flat, the government kept allotments open and we spent almost every day there. I think our WFH was about 7 weeks and we really did not want to go back to the office because of the lovely weather.
  3. Bucks Council has issued a weather warning for London and the South East for snow....when there isn't one. And now the local and parish councils and doctor's surgeries have spread the non existent weather warning. They have even put up a non-existent Meto link. Truly bizarre!
  4. At least four trees down around here overnight because of the wind, including over the branch line (no pun intended). The wind woke me up in the night, it was that loud.
  5. Powercut in the night seemingly. As I'm back in my rental flat in Wycombe for a bit while the bathroom installed in my new place, I woke up at 2am feeling very confused about where I was, the wind was howling though the trees, my touch lamp was going mental and flashing, the alarm clock was going off..and I head a strange crunch outside - my bird feeder, which has been here for years was finally blown over , smashing the baffle. And all this after Henk flooded the Thameside villages. A windy start to 2024 for sure.
  6. Some serious water on the roads out there. Feel so sorry for those walking home, even driving at 10mph you still hit them with a slow wave of water.
  7. Quite a few trees down around, including a very lucky driver in Cookham who escaped with minor injuries after a tree flattened their car while driving. I snapped these strange circular clouds just before the strongest winds hit, a bit like mammatus. The skies were amazing this afternoon.
  8. Yikes!! Lovely thunder just now, maybe a mile or so away, wasn't expecting it!
  9. Fantastically loud crack of thunder this evening in Cookham, Berks according to lightning map. So loud it was heard for miles and caused several alarmed people to put posts up asking if another Buncefield explosionhad happened. Lord knows why is was so loud over such a wide area, colder temps I guess.
  10. Holy heck, a terrifically loud clap of thunder about an hour ago seemingly heard for miles from Maidenhead to Wycombe!!! Social media across several different Facebook group all had posts asking where the explosion was. Some people though it was another Buncefield. Only one unremarkable flash seen by my partner near Marlow but not me in Wycome, I just heard what sounded like an enormous crash. What on earth made it so loud I wonder! Strike looks like it was a good 5 miles away near Cookham, Berks. Exciting.
  11. Ah what a lovely post, thank you!! I haven't been able to do much exercise in the past week for various reasons, plus the dark evenings and strange low pressure feels have all combined I think! I've heard some people take magnesium when seasonal mood disorders arise, so I think it's time I gave that a try too. Thank you for your kindness
  12. Apart from a few gusts late last night, you wouldn't even think Ciaran was a thing. But I've woken up feeling quite depressed this morning for no reason, my head just feels sort of heavy. I can't account for this feeling at all, so wonder if it's the low pressure! Rainy, cool and very blustery now.
  13. Lincolnshire flooding: Storm Babet hits homes and forces schools to close WWW.BBC.CO.UK Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue says it has received 330 flood-related calls. That's my sister's car, she didn't have time to get back from work in time to move it, it came up so quick.
  14. One of my sisters have been flooding out in her home in Horncastle. Apart from turning the electricity off and running a few things upstairs, she doesn't know what to do or how much worse it will get.
  15. Beautiful day yesterday, didn't feel cold despite the temps, I spent much of the day at the marina in just a hoodie. But just after 7am this morning, my heating clicked on for the first time this autumn, so I guess it's lower that 18.c in here. Time for winter duvet!
  16. Mild, rainy autumn morning here - I have no idea why we're under a weather warning.
  17. Big explosion in Oxfordshire, some are saying it was after a lightning strike. Saw an awesome strike in that direction about an hour ago.
  18. I just said 'It's been an hour with no thunder, I'm going back out'. ...stepped outside.... SHOTGUN THUNDER!!!
  19. Well this is a rather tasty afternoon! Really busy so have not looked at forecasts since yesterday...so a giant flash in front of me outdoors absolutely stunned me!!
  20. I hate March. February you can still get cracking cold weather, April some lovely sunny days and spring flowers. March is just a month of cold wind. And when Easter is in March, it seems such a waste having 4 days off when the weather is just boring and chilly. Easter is a moveable feast, so I've heard - so move it to June!! In 33 days time, sunset here will be 4.41pm. I love autumn...but afternoon sunsets are depressing.
  21. Woah! Big strike near Penn just now following 10 mins of heavy rain.
  22. Strange! Thunder - but no lightning (I was looking out the window) ...unless I can hear those Chertsey strikes??
  23. Very occasionally, I still have nightmares about the storms I saw in Saudi as a kid. Mostly because out roof caved in!
