  1. It seems to a fairly localised event across the mids. In Sutton we've probably had 5+ cm today already
  2. I think all the professional forecasters completely underestimated this event. Here in Sutton Coldfield - an area that was never expected to receive the worst of any front from any direction, today's event (which until last night was barely forecasted) is nearing topping Friday's event, and with some hours to go this could get very very severe.
  3. I actually think the eastern extent of this band has now been defined. At least for a few hours anyway, judging by the Meto radar simulation. The heavy stuff within the band will shift here and there however.
  4. Easy on Merc drivers Kar999 - there are pleeeenty of idiots is driving around in small hatchbacks, 4x4 and cars sporting those 'baby on board' stickers too...
  5. Don't be too down beat, as far as I'm aware this 'much weaker' front giving us light snow in Birmingham this norning was supposed to fizzle out over the mountains of Wales. Instead it has made is much further east. Good prospects perhaps therefore for the much stronger front coming in tomorrow...
  6. I don't think today was ever going to be a day where it was justifiable to skip work... I remember when we had that early January snow 3 years a go or so I arrived at work and then the snow started to bucket it down. Thye roads became so trecherous so quickly I sent our staff home by 11 am and I closed up the office, only for the snow to completely stop half an hour later and by 1 pm for all the snow to have melted...
  7. On the plus point, here in Birmingham we have glorious sunshine now, it really has been a day of two halves. I'd rather this any day over that awful cold drizzle we had either side of the snow earlier. The snow is around 1cm deep now on the grass and hopefully that should stay if the blazing sun doesn't melt it...
  8. Here in Sutton Coldfield (NNE Birmingham) ilight rain at around 8.30, turned to moderate snow fall with some large flakes thrown in at around 9.30 then back to very fine cold drizzle around 11.15. The sky looks like it is starting to brighten a bit however the odd large flake has begin to fall again now. I think we now want this cold wet front to pass us now as here in Birmingham only the centre and heaviest part of the precip band seems to contain snow flanked with light cold drizzle either side.
