  1. It's snowing 10 or so miles north of here (Hinckley) in Ellistiwn according to my Dad. Nothing here though. Clear skies, in fact.
  2. Took off from Gatwick at 1501 in the end (a forty minute delay) and it wasn't too bad. Certainly blustery and quite bumpy through the clouds but smoothed out pretty quickly. A couple of planes did have to go around before landing though and I saw a few wobbling badly on descent. From a selfish point of view nowhere near as bad as I'd feared though.
  3. We're flying up to Tromso, so away from the storm. I magine only take off will be the issue. The jetstream moving south makes a pleasant flight more likely.
  4. I'm thinking there's now a real chance of my flight from Gatwick tomorrow afternoon being cancelled, not just delayed, which I'd be pretty gutted about. Just hoping the the winds die down enough that we'll at least manage a late evening flight.
  5. Hmm. Would appear likely that my Monday afternoon flight from Gatwick will be at least delayed then. Which is no disaster since I'm arriving late in Tromso regardless, and I'd prefer to avoid a bumpy take off. Any suggestion as to when the winds will begin to calm?
  6. I have myself but judging by the jetstream forecast and the relative lack of thunderstorms at this time of year it shouldn't be too bad once we clear the clouds. At least the plane has wifi, so there will be a level of distraction.
  7. As grateful as I am I wish I'd not asked. A couple of pints before take off, I reckon.
  8. Hi all What's the situation re wind likely to be on Monday afternoon? I have a flight from Gatwick to Norway at 1420 and am a little concerned about delay potential. I've already resigned myself to a bumpy take off!
  9. I don't suppose anybody is able to tell me what the current model output says for Reykjavik? I'm heading up there next Friday for a long weekend and I'm hoping either for a bit of snow and some clear night skies to have a shot at seeing the aurora. Both would be nice but I appreciate that would need a lot of luck! Anyway, I know it's a long way off in terms of accurately predicting weather, but it would be interesting to know what the models are saying now.
  10. Still the odd rumble here. Hopefully we've lost a little humidity as a result of the storm.
  11. Is that likely to be it for the evening in this area?
  12. Right on the south western edge of Hinckley. We now have heavy rain and sunshine.
  13. The worst seems to have passed just west of here, but could see and hear everything (this thing is flashing and rumbling constantly as it makes its way up the west of Leicestershire) and were on the end of some real torrential rain and strong winds.
