  1. Snowing in Maidstone - trying hard to lay - but nothing much showing up on the radar- weird?
  2. Wife & i went for a walk yesterday afternoon at top of Detling Hill (approx 500' asl), nr Maidstone and from the ruins of Thurnham Castle looking North there were the remains of a drift in a field about 200 yds away. I'd say probably 25feet long and a couple of feet wide but a brilliant white as opposed to all the dirty piles of snow that get lift in shopping centre car parks. i was suprised to see it as it faces south although until this weekend there's not been much sun to melt it. Must be one of the few partches left south of the Thames.
  3. Suddenly we've been hit with a very heavy snow shower in Maidstone. i spent an hour clearing the drive and its completely covered over again!
  4. Maidstone has been absolutely hammered since around Noon and at least 5cm/2ins have fallen, probably more but its been blown around. Usually the hills to give us some protection but i think the strength of the wind has blown the showers straight into the river valley that Maidstone sits in and the snow has been unloaded on the poor burgers of the County Town! It appears to have eased off at last.
  5. Frequent snow showers in Maidstone with strong gusts blowing it around even in my fairly sheltered garden. My daughter should be travelling to Plymouth today by train, i just hope i can get her up to London!
  6. About 10cm level snow in South Maidstone. Apparently both Bluebell & Detling Hills closed by snow, ice & abandoned vehicles. Radio Kent providing a great public service, don't travel in this part of the world unless you have to. We had heavy snow from 4pm to about 7pm, since then its been lighter and intermitent.
  7. Main roads are fine, i imagine side roads will be a little icy!
  8. Not sure what happened there - didn#t mean to turn it into a twitter post - but nevertheless big flakes falling but having said that our total to date is probably less than 0.5cm on paths and cars etc.
  9. Snowing hard now in Maidstone, started off as graupel/hail but now small flakes covering all surfaces! most unexpected here in Mid (not East) Kent!
  10. First post of 2010 for me. Just popped round to corner shop for paper and sky turning grey. Dark clouds blowing in on a light NE and North Downs to NE of Maidstone disappearing. Update - just started snowing in Maidstone, light of course but def sticking!
  11. Maidstone has a good 6 inches (Mote Park area) of level snow with both Bluebell Hill and Detling Hill closed. Still snowing hard!!!
  12. Yes that guy clearing snow off roofs (or is it rooves) - either way i want his job. Fantastic programme, loads of snow, diamond dust, getsers, thermal rivers, animals and yet more snow. Brilliant catch it on i-player.
  13. 4cm of snow here and still falling, everything white and probably as much snow if not more than last monday! The best thing of all is that it was a complete surprise!
  14. Just driven from Medway to Maidstone via Bluebell Hill. Very heavy snow and fog at top of hill, car temp 0C no gritting in medway, snow laying on all surfaces. Is it going to last?
  15. Its definitely snow rather than rain - trying to lay here - so with your extra height you should see some soon good luck.
  16. Its just started here near Mote Park! First snow since Monday
  17. Can anyone in the Northampton area help? I am supposed to be taking my daughter to Northampton Uni tomorrow for a "taster" course which starts at 11am. I know the Uni was shut today but what are conditions like now and IF you get no more snow what are the chances of it being open tomorrow? (Their web site merely states it will give an update at 8am tomorrow but i would like to leave Maidstone before then) It may be that the route between Mstne & N'hmptn may be "difficult" anyway. Thanks Chris
  18. This is my first attempt at downloading my photos onto netweather, so hope its worked. they are 3 views from a very wintry looking Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent taken last Saturday morning after a very foggy and frosty night.
  19. Maidstone has about 2cm with covering on all surfaces. Not snowing at present.
  20. On Radio 5 live's weather forecast at 6.30am this morning, Alex Deacon revealed he was a big darts fan - so much so that his nickname is Alex "The Death" Deacon and he has the skull & Crossbones on his flights! (On a more mundane note he forecast the cold weather would last at least another week.)
