  1. Very Hot July in Italy. For now, in my area(SIENA, TUSCANY), is the hottest july in recent history. The mean T. for July 2015 is 27.5°C. Compared to the 1961-1990 Mean, +5.3°C above normal(+22.2°C)!! The cause is a constant inflow of Subtropical air(Maghreb origin) on the Mediterrenean Sea, due to the "Anticiclone nordafricano" as we call it. The sea surface is now terribly hot, 4/5°C more than july 2014 Some datas and two pic that explain the current, dramatical, situation. 2. Fantastic day in Siena. THUDERSNOWWW T 1.3°C
  3. Today I want to share with you a particular aspect of our microclimate Here, some of today's minimum temperatures in Siena's province. In Siena centre -0.7°C, in some of valleys not so far from the town(15-20km), some cold values. -10°C in Pian di Feccia, close to the Abbazia of San Galgano(330m slm) -9.6°C in Miniere di Murlo(280 m slm) -6.7°C in Gaiole in Chianti(315 m slm)
  4. Ok, here we are... Winter is finally came in Italy Monte Amiata, or mountain, is covered by snow. 10-15 cm at 1300 meters, 30 cm on the edge(1600-1700 meters). This permits the opening of the ski resort. In Siena Today: LOWEST T. 5.6°C HIGHEST T 10.5°C So temperatures at low altitude are still a little bit over the average, but colder than the beginning of 2015... In the Pic, Monte Amiata in his best clothes..
  5. Good evening. Winter is trying to conquer the Mediterranean Sea, the next week. Nothing that can make us jump on the chair but a little bit of winter, with 850hPa temperatures next to the average or a little bit under average. Probably some more snow on the Alps and some snow on Appennines and Monte Amiata(the highest mountain of Siena, s province, 1738 meters). LIVE T. SITUATION: Siena centre(340 meters): +6.8°C Florence centre(48 meters): +8.6°C We are expecting a bit of "inversion" tonight. So diffuse frost on the Tuscany vallies, with values under zero. There are many vallies outside Siena that can normally experiment -5/-7° C without a Cold Wave, only with inversion, with clear skies. Siena, doesn't have inversions, because is circundated by vallies and located on the highest hills
  6. mmmhh, Ok now I understand why Italy is so complicated for easy stuffs.. I'm very sorry but...there are no sites like What's on or something similar. As for Venice, you can find maybe two hundred event sites..it' a shame that most of these are totally useless or graphically obsolete.. Maybe you can find some interesting informations about events, concerts, etc...on: http://www.agendavenezia.org/en/ http://en.venezia.net/ http://en.turismovenezia.it/ And this is Venice, one of the most turistic city in the world... About Treviso: http://visittreviso.it/en
  7. Hi Matty, I suggests this one: http://www.arpa.veneto.it/previsioni/en/html/meteo_pianura.php It's the bulletin of the regional meteorological center of Veneto, and for Venice and Treviso is probably the most reliable one. It's also in english, so it's easier to understand for a non-italian. This one instead, about the tides: http://www.comune.venezia.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/EN/IDPagina/1748?uniq=ec4b86335372933fdec02dbf1dfcc8cb I hope to have been helpful
  8. Thank you very much Soaring Hawk. Something is going to change from Friday! Models suggests a drop of NAO Index from highly positive values to neutral or weakly negative , with a braking of the westerlies in the Atlantic Ocean. So a Through(Saccatura in Italian), should have open way to the Mediterranean Sea. Initially it will be a little bit occidental dinamic, with a mild/warm breathe, but wet then the estshift of the Through, we wait for a cooler Maritime Polar Air. On Friday some snow is going to fall on the Alps, above 1000-1200 meters on Western Alps, and 1200-1500 on Centre-Eastern Alps, then by saturday to sunday morning, the snow line will descend on 7-900 meters on Alps and Pre-Alps and on 800-1000 in the Northern Appennines, including Tuscany.
  9. SIENA LIVE 11 p.m T +7.4°C partly cloud. Today extremes: MIN: +3.2 C° MAX: +13.2°C Another mild day, of a very very mild winter(for now). Many people talks about this, in Siena and in the entire Italy. There isn't snow in the Alps, except a little bit above 1500-2000 meters, and we can find the same situation in the Appennins. And this is very very very uncommon in January. Something could change in the next weekend...we hope so.
  10. Hi, I start a topic on the weather in Italy, focusing on the weather in the city of Siena and in Tuscany. Italy has a very complex climate. The position on Mediterranean Sea and the intricate orography of its territory makes forecast very difficult and sometimes unpredictable also in the very short range. As you can see in the map town of Siena is situated in the centre-north Italy, in the heart of Tuscany, 50 km south of Florence, the capital of Tuscany, and 185 north to Rome. Italy's capital. Siena' centre(where I live) is located at the altitude of 310-360 meters and was build majorly in the Middle Age on three hills. The weather is mild. Summer is hot and dry. Autumn can be very wet and rainy, Winter cool but very very rarely cold. Snow falls 1-3 times a year. The mean in 61-90 was about 20-25cm per years, in the last two decades the mean dropped to 10cm per years. The coldest month is January with a Mean Temperature of +5°C, the hottest is July with a Mean T. of +22.2°C, the yearly mean. Temperature is 13.2°C This datas are based on 61-90 mean of Siena's University station, located in the center of the town, 348 m.
