  1. Distant rumble in Kingsbridge. Seems to be offshore. Has developed over past 30min
  2. That was really crazy last night. In Torquay about 7pm, there were some little bits of sleet hitting the windscreen, but I didn't think anything of it. Making my way home around 8.30 and still no real difference, it was showing 4-5 degrees. Then the temp really started dropping between Torquay and Totnes, which is when the snow started. Again, not terrible, but bad enough with all the flooding. Once through Totnes, snow really got going. Visibility was absolutely dreadful. I've never driven in anything that bad, mostly because of the sheer amount of standing water that I couldn't see because of the snow hitting the windscreen. I was actually really lucky I got home when I did - half hour later and I could well have been stuck! Plenty of reports across Devon of people abandoning their cars It just shows how difficult it is to predict snow. Has caught everyone by surprise. Just a small patch of snow left on grass this morning - with heavy rain, strong winds and possibly some thunder and lightning to come later today lol.
  3. Wow! That was unexpected... Drove home from Torquay via Totnes, some horrendous visibility with snow. Was beginning to lay on higher parts but it's even snowing here in Kingsbridge. Roads flooded where they weren't white Temp slowly dropped from about 5 to 1 degrees on the way home - no wonder it's snowing!
  4. Believe it has rained pretty much all day today in Kingsbridge - only slight variations in intensity Yesterday was lovely, today a shocker!
  5. Nothing further to add in Kingsbridge today I'm afraid...vile! Even some heavier bursts of rain too. Very murky too.
  6. Radar still suggesting darker blues and greens around here - there's absolutely nothing in the air at all, rain, sleet or snow Agree it is disappointing, but I guess the models and MetO had backed away from any warning scenario few days ago. So no surprise. Germany for example will see a fair chunk with 5-15cm snow, up to 30-40cm in places Unwetter in Deutschland - Aktuelle Warnungen | tagesschau.de WWW.TAGESSCHAU.DE Der Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD) informiert laufend über die Warnsituation in Deutschland. 7. In Kingsbridge and no sign of any moisture on the ground at all this morning, wind has picked up a lot. If it did manage to snow then it didn't do much damage it must be said
  8. The fact the Met Office put that graphic out yesterday for the models to then go "nope" would suggest there is still huge uncertainty. Let's wait till Monday morning at least
  9. After a good hour or two of light snow and some small accumulations, it's beginning to melt away quickly. If that's all we get this winter, well at least we got there
  10. So the big question is will we see some snow over the next 24/36 hours?! I note the wind is due to swing round to ENE later tomorrow. Sea temp is currently around 12deg in S Devon. A possibility of some showers forming and heading E to W...not betting a fiver on it, but worth keeping an on!
  11. Vile in Kingsbridge this morning. Heavy rain (lots of it), now drizzle almost. Roll on some dry weather!
  12. The initial squall line wasn't particularly noticeable here in KB. However torrential downpour with hail mixed in just after midnight, water flowing down the road and paths. Weird ol' weather
  13. Blimey, unexpected storm action in South Devon! Was helping a customer load their shopping in, big flash and crash of thunder Err excuse me, no thanks, I've got to walk home

  15. Exactly, as usual our local infrastructure suffers disproportionately when bad weather hits. There aren't many alternatives when roads like the A379 get shut! Lanes will be busy
  16. Torrential downpour just rattled through. Been looking towards SE but didn't see any flashes of lightning off the coast. Very active weather tonight, that's for sure!
  17. Was due to drive to Torquay earlier, but didn't bother as rain was horizontal and loads of standing water a few mins into the journey. Turned back. Didn't fancy the return journey at 10pm, would not have been pleasant. Happy with that decision
  18. Very breezy this morning, we are high up nr Kingsbridge. Several showers already. Drove home on M5 last night and visibility was dreadful from Weston jct onwards with all the spray. Thankfully standing water not too bad, but a few dicey sections getting home! The associated rainfall over next day or so could also have significant impacts, not just the wind. Ground is certainly saturated and rain has nowhere to go other than running off fields.
  19. Very interesting couple of days coming up, it really is hard to tell how South Devon is going to fare with Storm Ciaran. Doesn't seem to have generated much interest locally so far - strange seeing as we are under an Amber warning! Certainly looks very concerning for the Channel Islands, Brittany etc., as things stand. Wouldn't take much for the really concerning winds to move into this part of the country.
