ancient topic, I know, but I hope that someone is still reading it.
I was wondering whether this data (or a similar dataset) is available in text format? I'd like to know the number of lightning strikes per month in a specific area over several years, so it would be great if I could just write a Matlab program and have it check values in a matrix, rather than looking at hundreds of individual pictures.
So the perfect thing would be a file containing the raw data of a visualisation like this, with dimensions [lat x lon x days].
Any ideas? Or does anyone know of a similar dataset that meets my requirements?
