  1. Wet & windy - often very windy here. Not a sign of any snowfall at all - just boring sleety mix
  2. At this stage yes we will see some rather wet days but nowhere near as bad as last year thank god. Temps will be higher though
  3. The MetO will no doubt say another mild winter ahead and then it'll all go belly up as usual
  4. Just when I thought the Daily Express, the so called world's greatest paper had given up on the sensational weather headlines,a friend at work showed me todays copy. Page on the super hornets due to arrive here with GW and next to it was an article on the recent Storms that lashed the UK,it said that it cost the UK £350 Million Next to it was a response by the UKMO which stated that such extreme conditions were unlikely to continue into March,HOWEVER it quoted Wether Action as stating that Late March would see a return of such extreme weather as they forecast a MAJOR Storm crossing the UK bringing chaos in its wake Correct me if i am wrong but is'nt Weather Action a Piers Corbyn company?? Here we go again,JUST where does this idea come from I surfed all the available sites and came up with NO reference to any such event so far in advance
  5. He got it on there own website my friend, only the other week it was balanced towards colder thatn average and then there it goes back to predominately milder and wetter than average. However there is the posibility of MUCH colder weather in late January early February 2007 which IF it combines with the period of wetter weather COULD produce a significantly snowy peiod ok?
  6. Absolute tripe i am afraid, saw the cover of the express about 2 months ago and guess what it said then? Winter will be the NEW summer! Had to pick it up for a laugh and it said that the mild and wet would hold ALL the way to next spring with way above average temperatures ALL over Europe - SNIGGER!!! Then of course The UKMO changed its views pointing towards maybe cold maybe mild and the Express puts THAT tripe in its paper and i did read it in Morrisons this morning and made the staff smile this cold morning with my guffaws of laughter!!! What do i find on the net but the UKMO going BACK to a mild(ish)winter forecast - HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Basically its typical tabloid tripe,i would'nt believe them if the said the earth was round - what you mean it is well fancy that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. And your guess is.............? I have read some peoples thoughts saying that the current setup indicates a SEVERE cold spell coming whilst yet others say NO it will not be too bad really and both sides produce links to page after page of facts and figures which go WAY over my head as im new to this so PLEASE in plain english will you or someone please tell me what the heck the jigsaw you describe means in actual physical weather patterns???
  8. It might snow and then again who knows it might not!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One word sums up my feelings on the issue - - PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. The El Nino of 1997-1998 was a strong one and its effects were felt in Europe with Snow and record low temps my friend,if this years is weak its effects will be localised to those areas closest to it so when you say it has nothing to do with the weather you are wrong i am afraid,i am NO expert in the weather but since the MetO relesed its revised forecast for the winter and used El Nino as a basis for this i have done a LOT of surfing on the web and read up about it i suggest you do the same.
  10. Hmmm,BUT was there an El Nino present during that Winter as that article in the times mentions? Yeah - Iknow they are Journolists as opposed to experts in the weahter but they quote those Swiss scientists who suggest there was an El Nino,I agre that other factors must have played a part in the severe cold of that winter bearing in mind we were still in the after effects of The little Ice Age. Would like to know what they are basing there El Nino comparisons on as I AM getting fascinated now with the science behind the weather so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
  11. Just read your incredibly detailed post my friend and ALL i can say is FASCINATING! Thank you
  12. Thats the one matey. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So just who do i believe? God i hate this time of year as here we go again with the mild vs cold dbate and im getting a headache!
  13. Vague it is my friend,WELL it might be cold this winter or it might not and there COULD be an exceptional cold spell later OR NOT!!!!! Then i ask why mention those 29 years 1971 to 2000? seems like they are saying take your pick here as Winter COULD follow the same trend of one of these! Why did they simplly not say HELP we do'nt know as the forecast models are all over the place and telling us different things? : That will do me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. The last El Nino was what 1997 - 1998(?) and if memory serves me right 1998 was relatively mild - NO severe winter there,BUT according to my diary (JUST checked for that winter) here in the south east of the Uk and my town Herne Bay in particular there was a period of heavy snow/blizzards in early January followed by wet and windy weather from late January interspersed with calm foggy days which lasted well into March and the spring of that year and it got progressively mild too - NOt proof to poo - pooh the whole MetO thing BUT food for thought???????????
  15. I am sorry if i am being a right old sceptic here but i JUST do not get what all the hype is about? I read the MetO's revision and there claim that winter will turn colder later on and upon reading the weather page in the Times today I am EVEN more sceptical. They repeat the comments on the UKMO's website but go further and say that it starts from the theory of two Swiss scientists who say that the extreme cold of 1941 to 1942 was POSSIBLY caused by an El Nino!!!!!!!! Is that why the MetO changed its tune? The Work of just two scientists? It clarifies the Late Winter Cold spell as coming Feb to Mar 2007,NOW really we are surely entering silly territory here as when was the last time you saw ANY forecaster foretell the weather THAT far ahead? We are entering the first week of October and they are telling us to expect an event 5 - 6 months ahead - COME ON! Remember back in the spring the MetO issued a Summer 06 forecast that said the summer would be wet with below average temperatures, then after the heat in July the prediction was August would be EVEN hotter and look how that turned out - mild yes but no - one could call it record breaking. Before anyone calls me a mild - ramper,i would still pour a lot of scorn on the LRF if it predicted record breaking heat for 5 to 6 months ahead into the Winter - SORRY I just do'nt get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
