  1. Strange day today isn't it? Dull but warmish. Looks a bit brighter tomorrow which could (hopefully!) trigger some interesting convection but this is Greater Manchester where for some reason it never thunders.
  2. Decent late afternoon here. Sat in my back garden, quite a bit of cloud around but it's really nice when the sun pops out. I couldn't have done this a few days ago would've been way too hot sat out. Looks like it's 21c at Manchester airport which is nice enough
  3. danm yes spring often brings easterlys and here west of the pennines it is often nice, probably the sunniest time of year here, the wind can sometimes be a bit chilly but in the sun it's effects get mitigated. I know east of the pennines its often a different story with north sea muck spoiling things. Especially Lincolnshire up to Scotland being most prone.
  4. I remember Atlantic 252 sounds like torture to me, awful climate and it's like that every year. Imagine being poor and having no air conditioning in that!
  5. Certainly wet at times today but much more fresher. A bit warmer tomorrow, probably low 20s so nice enough and similar temps through into Friday.....and then probably dropping down to the high teens to 20c thereafter. Possibly a bit more rain on the way as well from weekend. As of now no further heat on the way in the reliable timeframe.
  6. Scorcher yeah when I lived in Sacramento in California the sun was noticeably stronger than here. That city was about as far south as Benidorm in Spain or Lisbon in Portugal. Just looking at the UV in Sacramento today via the met office and it's 11 (extreme). I was there at the same time of year back in 2002 and it would've been basically identical.
  7. Not really noticing any reduction in day light yet. But we lose the astronomical twilight on the 30th in the Manchester area that we've had since the 14th May, so for the next two weeks or so we still have these very light days and nights to enjoy. Make the most of it if you can because it really is all downhill from there on in. 8. Did some errands in Denton earlier and sat there for a bit where the market used to be — very pleasant in the sun and much better than the horrible heat. Totally clouded over now in Audenshaw.
  9. Day 10 Like you said early this year hopefully it will run AMOC and give us this
  10. iand61 Reservoir levels will be eye opening on next Wednesday's update especially with Pennine ones that are already less than half full. They was 45.9% on the last update. Of course we could get the wettest August on record yet...who knows which would help things a bit but I have heard that in summer a lot of rain kind of evaporates on the ground on the hills and most doesn't actually make it to fill up the reservoirs. From mid September when the sun starts to become a lot weaker, and the ground on the hills more cooler this doesn't occur. What's done it this year was the very dry spring, we had a lot of easterly winds so on this side of the hills that meant a lot less rain.
  11. Slept surprisingly fine last night despite the very warm room temperature. Around 7 hours which is an achievement for this normally insomniac person lol. I don't sleep well at the best of times. I remember talking to an Indian guy during the last heatwave and he said to me how hot it got in his house back home growing up he said it was often well into the 30s for 9 months of the year! Apparently there is only a few months in the year when Delhi gets cool and fine inside. No air-conditioning you see as he wasn't well off. Jeez don't think I'd deal with that for more than half the year! Anyway a bit cooler here today, not by a lot but it's the start of the drop in temps.
  12. Looks like Blackpool airport had the highest temp today in the region that I can find @ 31c. It was actually at or above 30c for around 5 hours there today. All courtesy of an easterly offshore flow. The coast almost always a bit hotter than inland in those kinds of set ups. https://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/weather/current/EGNH.html
  13. Stayed in today thankfully couldn't bear being out amongst the crowds on a day like today. Tomorrow will be a bit cooler here but probably only by a couple of degrees but its a start! Much more relief Monday and Tuesday though.
  14. 28c at Manchester airport. Dropped from 29c earlier, the light easterly breezes seem to have knocked the temp down a bit. As I said yesterday areas closer to the coast most favoured today for being the hotspots — Liverpool and Blackpool both at 30c officially. Looking ahead a nice break from the heat on Tuesday and then the mid 20s by Thursday.
  15. jakey725 Yeah I'd love to go as well so much tradition there. Been watching it since the days of Sampras, Steffi Graf, Agassi etc when it was still mostly serve and volley instead of today's mainly baseline duels. I hear it's hard to get tickets but you can bet the rich and celebrities have no problem obtaining them without much effort, even for nothing. After watching matches over the last couple of weeks it's been like a revolving door of celebrities showing up at centre court. I do wonder if some even like tennis or is it just to be seen and "papped?"
