  1. Mapantz God that’s awful screen burn. You should return it.
  2. MJB I remember it well as I was working outdoors then. Even London had a good covering for 2 days but nothing like as much as oop north. It was on the back of a very cold winter anyway.
  3. Airedalejoe Think it might have been March 79 when much of the NE was cut off by snow mid March.
  4. I’m going to be completely selfless here and let the south have that snowstorm midweek. I’ve got a 120 mile journey to a hospital appointment on Thursday that I don’t want to miss. So with that in mind the south can have this one and us northerners can have ours later while we stay in the cold air
  5. After nearly a year of owning this console my general feeling is that it’s ok but really not worth the price tag. It was beset with numerous problems for a great part of the year but various updates have gradually resolved these issues and all seems to be working fine now. For me it’s a handy device for seeing what the current conditions are outside and can be easily viewed from across the room but that’s about it really.
  6. No particular science, just years of me being a weather enthusiast. I think if this northerly does make it successfully to our shores and hangs around a few days then we’re in with a shot of the cold becoming embedded especially if there’s a fair amount of snow cover. This is what happened in 81 and it took until after Christmas until the Atlantic made inroads.
  7. I know the GFS looks an absolute pigs ear tonight, in fact an utter mess. However it does look on the cold side. This chart from Dec 81 also looks an absolute disaster area but it was absolutely perishing believe me, once cold becomes embedded at the surface, it can take a hell of a lot to shift it it certain circumstances
  8. I think there’s many folk that are currently knee deep in floodwater that would be grateful for that
  9. How difficult does it seem to be able to advect cold weather into the UK these days? I’m sure it’s getting harder every winter and I can only put it down to climate change and increased sea temperatures. Within 10 years I can see us all drooling over charts that might produce a sleet shower over the top of Ben Nevis. All very disheartening
  10. Me too! There’s no straight road to snow in the UK. Just long and winding roads
  11. As far as I know you can’t turn the display off without unplugging it (pointless really). The wind rose in the middle is a real-time display and will update every couple of seconds. IMG_0851.MOV Prodata have or had them in stock. That’s where I got mine from.
  12. So I took the plunge and bought this new fangled Davis WeatherLink console which arrived yesterday. Whilst I haven’t gone into every file folder or graph as yet, I just thought I’d let you know my personal opinion of it. Firstly, the main reason I wanted it was really to be able to view all the basic info from across the room which I couldn’t do with the old console you get with a Vantage Vue. For this purpose it does the job splendidly. A surprisingly large screen, easy to read, configure and set up, with a choice of what you want to see on the screen. You have a choice of 2x2 panels or 2x3 panels to view. Obviously the 2x2 panels are larger and easy to see from a distance but less info on show. 2x3 panels are what I’ve got it set to to maximise the info available as it’s still very easy to read from a distance. All good and working fine and great for what I wanted it for. Now to the not so good bits. I already have WeatherLink live broadcasting to the internet and was rather hoping when I signed in on this console that I would be able to load all the previous historical data onto the console, but no! It’s like starting all over again and would appear that I need to start a new WeatherLink account ( I’m not that technically minded so I may be wrong there). Accessing other info such as graphs and other data I find more fiddly although I’m still finding my way around it at the moment. For what I want it for, just viewing the temperatures, wind, rainfall etc from across the room, it’s fine, but I can’t help feeling that Davis has missed a trick or two here, and I’m hoping that some of these issues could possibly be solved with firmware updates at a later date. All in all I’m satisfied for what I want it for but can’t help feeling it’s rather pricey for what it is. A glorified tablet with a stand. Oh and it’s made in China, shame on you Davis.
  13. Never mind a Scandi high, I’d take a high nearby anywhere, Euro Bartlett whatever if it stops this lashing rain we’ve endured for ages now.
