  1. The wind gusts are definitely louder tonight than they were on Sunday night! Whether or not that equates to them being stronger I can only guess!!
  2. It's here! Pelting with rain and gusting randomly... And then suddenly it stops!
  3. Nothing... Zip... Nada...diddly squat in East Lancs. Bloody disappointing!! Enjoy what you've got everyone and stay safe. Oh, hang on, I can hear rain! Yay!
  4. Saturday... Too far to my West. Yesterday, too far to my east. Today, too far west again! The lightning map looks bonkers over Kirkham way!
  5. About 3 drops of rain fell overnight in Accrington! Now hoping that the flashes and bangs Manchester way head in my direction! Currently in the back yard with my laptop trying to write end of year school reports! Not going well, keep being distracted by planes coming into land at Manchester... They seem to be at a lower altitude than usual. Avoiding something maybe? An EasyJet flight from Amsterdam has been around twice, as has A Turkish Airlines from Istanbul. Oh, and I keep checking in here! Oh well, let's try again. Hope you all get whatever you want storm/rain wise!
  6. It seems to have snowed pretty much non stop since 11am here. Some lighter bits but also huge flakes for a good twenty minutes at a time. About 4cm has accumulated. Genuinely expected a couple of flurries and a dusting. Pleasantly surprised!
  7. Lovely dusting in East Lancashire too! Hopefully will get enough to justify getting out my sledge... For my six month old grandson of course...
  8. Still waiting for a storm. Nothing so far this year in East lancs. A couple of ridiculously distant rumbles heard back in June, very distant lightning seen in August, but nothing decent at all this year! However, my head is banging so this will either be: 1) a sign of a storm heading my way finally... Or... 2) First day back at work tiredness.
  9. I work in a school. Have been flagging the forecast high temperatures to "the seniors" most of the week. Dept for ed suggest "leaving windows open overnight". A bit difficult when the peak is meant to begin on a Monday! Mitigations for our school are: wear shorts and pupils can take jumpers off! A local high school has rescheduled their sports day from today to Monday! It seems that some people are not taking this seriously! I have experienced 40+ temps abroad... This spell of temperature is in a country with virtually zero aircon and nobody really has a pool to jump into after work... I hope that people can stay as safe as possible!
  10. I was in Majorca July 2018 and the temp hit 40°, or at least that's what the sign outside the pharmacy said! I found it very uncomfortable! Even in an air conditioned restaurant my hands were sweating so much I could barely hold my cutlery! Love a sunny, hot spell but very concerned for the elderly and other vulnerable groups at this time. Amazing to potentially be part of some recording breaking weather in the foreseeable but I also think people need to be cautious and take care! I am not looking forward to teaching a class of 26 hot and bothered 9 year olds tomorrow, especially towards the end of term when they've had enough of each other!
  11. Don't think I've ever seen such big flakes! Can see them falling through the frosted glass window in the bathroom they are that massive!
  12. Lovely flakes gently floating down from the sky! Sticking well but I'm sure will turn back into snizzle soon.
  13. Bah! I jinxed it! All fizzled out now. Still so oppressively hot, even standing outside in the raindrops only worked to cool me down for so long...
  14. Can hear thunder in Accrington... Main body of the storm over Burnley and it seems to be growing???
  15. Just seen a funnel cloud... Near Accrington!!!! I've nearly wet myself with excitement!!! Really rubbish pic but the best I could get!!!
  16. Thunder and lighting to the east and west of me, but no rain? What's that all about??? Oh, and an England victory too... Cracking night all round! Cheers!
  17. I've put my washing out whilst the sky was beautifully clear... It's now snowing!!
  18. Daughter travelling home from Fairfield hospital... The A56 is horrendous by all accounts! Stay safe everyone!
  19. Big fat snowflakes in Accrington!!! Said to my sister this morning that the rain would turn to snow tonight... And did she believe me???
  20. The ice pellets hitting the window are no longer melting straight away... And I can see snowflakes! Hubby is working in Waterfoot and, I quote, "it's humping it down!"
  21. The rain (that doesn't seem to have stopped all night) has turned into ice pellets in East Lancs!
  22. Light flakes just beginning to fall in Accrington. Sky looks very "full"! I've got to collect my shopping later too... Still have bits of snow on the ground from last year!!!
  23. I'm in East Lancs and can see the faintest of flashes in the sky... Just how it began last night. Looking at the lightning map, the nearest lightning is South of Manchester so it's amazing to be able to see the lightning from this distance! It's so calm and warm outside too... Not a breath of air!
