  1. Lol literally woke up to not a single flake! I think I need to move inland. Can't believe how much some people got, brilliant to see. Frustrating that this sort of thing can't last more than a day or 2 though
  2. Sounds very disappointing all round. Can't believe I let myself get excited about this lol it's currently 1 degree here and... raining
  3. Trying to temper my expectations, living by the coast and only 50 odd m above sea level usually doesn't deliver for my location but hoping that you guys get the goods!
  4. Warm, but will it be sunny? The cloud so far this summer has been thoroughly depressing.
  5. My sister lives in New Jersey and is currently bombarding the family WhatsApp with the snow they're getting... Over 20 inches... Does this not usually result in more energy in the Atlantic for us?
  6. Thanks! Glad to hear it's been debunked Trying to follow the model thread with my limited knowledge, but seems the west/north west just doesn't exist in there. All they ever talk about is the north/east/south east/south west (on occasion). Hard to tap into their excitement/make sense of the models as a result - so really appreciate posts from yourself MS and others that cut through the noise, even if it isn't all good news
  7. Not everywhere in the east... On the coast here with a little bit of elevation but not even the beast from the east could deliver to us Not a flake lol As a result I don't have any faith in easterlies either Just watched the week ahead forecast from last night from the BBC...Horrendous for us next week if that comes off
  8. Yeah the disease is called Trichomonosis and was the reason Greenfinches (in particular) took such a blow to the population around 2006/7. Think it was the largest scale mortality of birds due to disease on record (in the UK), and it's continuing to this day to reduce their numbers sadly. They believe woodpigeons, doves etc are prone to the disease, but the main way it infects other birds is through dirty feeders and water containers/baths so it is really important to keep everything clean. Also a good idea is to have multiple feeders (or rotate existing ones) to prevent the build up of contamination in any one area, and to stop a lot of birds gathering on one feeder. We had one stuck in our feeder in November, friendly little thing and was hardly scared of us - couldn't believe it! We also had a family of goldfinches and chaffinches, but they've all disappeared recently. Have still got the loyal robins and other wee birds though, and some blackbirds. Love them all but wish our goldfinches would come back lol If we get this cold spell at least there's plenty on here looking out for the wee birds
  9. Ah. My knowledge is very limited, and as a newbie I try to pick up what I can from the more experienced people on here, including yourself MS Stodge wrote a post on the focused mod thread back on Saturday When he said the downwelling was to reach the troposphere in the next week, I assumed he meant the SSW... And to be honest I was a bit confused because I've read a few conflicting reports on the topic... However, it gave me a bit if hope that things *might* change in the next week...but we'll see
  10. Read from a knowledgable poster in the focussed mod discussion a few days ago that the SSW downwelling is to reach the troposphere this week, but that the models aren't interested, so the advice is to take a break from model watching for maybe a week... that's what I've been trying to do. The constant excitement of potential cold getting wrote off by mild incursions has been exhausting lol Hopefully next week will have more encouragment for us!
  11. @Eastantrim4 It seems from the radar that everwhere except Larne and east antrim are going to get snow today :-( It's so depressing lol
  12. Heavy/blizzard like conditions in Larne! Seems to be a mix of sleet and hail
