  1. Some photos from just ouside Maidenhead yesterday evening. Some really cool structures and striations.
  2. Similarly to what others have said, the storm that passed over Brighton is the most severe I’ve ever been caught in. First ever time I’ve had to run for my life whilst filming. CGs striking meters away from me, 70+ mph winds and considerable sized hail. Definite rotation as well. I will upload my footage once I’ve transferred it from my sd card.
  3. Got woken up to this unexpected storm, I hadn’t really been keeping up with the weather due to recent disappointments. Plenty of lightening, mostly sheet from my vantage point but a few sky-crawlers and a couple of CGs. Here’s a snippet of what I got: IMG_6387.MOV
  4. I was at Brighton sea front for around 35 mins. Lots of CGs (or cloud to water) and a few deep rumbles of thunder, but most of it seems to be heading east. Going to look on my camera to see what I’ve got. In my opinion, this system will weaken considerably as it travels over the channel as there’s just not enough energy to maintain it. It’s now just rain here in Brighton, refreshing however after today being so humid.
  5. This was probably of the most eventful storms I’ve seen in a while. The lightening, about 15 mins ago, was persistent with sky crawlers and intense rain pulses, lots of localised flooding here in Brighton. More of this, please.
  6. the wind is that strong in Brighton right now that my mate’s carpet is bulging up and down like it’s breathing. IMG_4126.MOV
  7. What looks like some slight rotation over Southampton earlier this afternoon. Probably a dying rotation, if not just some cool turbulence. The video is on 10x speed btw, hence why it’s only a few seconds long. IMG_2719.MOV
  8. I may have just heard the deepest and loudest rumble of thunder in my life, it sounded more like an explosion or sonic boom. I’ve got a recording of it attached.Loud thunder.m4a
  9. Torrential rain over Maidenhead with thunder and lightening. Very much a surprise. IMG_1782.MOV IMG_1790.MOV
  10. The sky over slough/Maidenhead is really intense right now with an 90% chance of Tstorms. Sun is also out behind me, so should offer some last minute fuel this evening. Edit: now 100% chance
  11. Interesting structure heading towards me. Is also being picked up on radar. Got my camera poised and ready in its direction.
  12. I’m becoming more pessimistic for later today after reading both Convective Weather UK and ESTOFEX’s forecasts. ESTOFEX have put the SE at a level 1 with heavy-consistent rain being the primary reason. Although, they have put the SE in a 50% lightening zone. Their forecast really isn’t that exciting. Dan at Convective Weather Weather forecasts a slight chance, with the condition that breaks in the clouds are needed to trigger any decent convection. However, mid-level flow will weaken as the afternoon progresses reducing speed shear which will lower the chance of cells popping up in the evening. It’s not ruled out though. This afternoon is going to be reliant on now casting and radar watching, as in my opinion the conditions aren’t present to confidently predict where storms will hit.
  13. Beautiful looking structure here. Over shooting top and large anvil. (Sorry for the dirty window, I’m on a train out of Brighton rn)
  14. It’s official here in Brighton, huge formation overhead and an 80% chance of thunderstorms.
  15. So, yesterday I believe to have caught what looks like a funnel cloud over the outskirts of Windsor. At around 17:30 a large anvil topped formation was heading towards Dorney from a SW direction. Then exactly half an hour later (18:00) this formation was passing over Dorney. I noticed some upward motion at the cloud base and what looked to be a funnel cloud started to form. The funnel cloud only lasted around 2 or so minutes. IMG_1448.MOV If you look at the structure above I would hazard to say there is a mesocyclone present. Although, the atmosphere wasn’t particular potent in terms of energy, the shear environment was adequate for such a system to form.
  16. Brilliant down here atm. Decent frequency of lightening and nice cracks of thunder.
  17. Glad I chose to stick around the beach as the lightening is more frequent now in the distance. Some nice CG (more-so Cloud to water lol) and a booming rumbles of thunder just as I type this.
  18. I think it’s the lighting of the camera as it’s still quite light here in Brighton.
  19. Very disappointing here right now. Looking out into the channel and all I can see is mist and cloud. The rain has also been relentless, though it is refreshing after the heat of today. I might pop home and come back when it’s darker.
