  1. Apologies, it was 'in the absence of' that said that. I blame the covid
  2. Here's another In pictures: Nordic states gripped by winter freeze https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-67871751
  3. You said mainstream media never cover cold extremes.
  4. Beijing shivers through coldest December on record Beijing shivers through coldest December on record WWW.BBC.CO.UK Temperatures in the Chinese capital have frequently fallen below -10C this month.
  5. It's a great place to ski but maybe on this occasion all those hot runways melted the snow. https://www.crystalski.co.uk/ski-resorts/spain-ski-holidays/
  6. I'm trying to work out your motivation. Years back you were a mod and used to post the same old chocolate teapot picture (plus a few other regulars) in the mod thread. Now you post stuff from the models and give us all the 'low pressure' and 'no hope' postings. So do you have any time for the models or not? Or do you just these days post the bleak versions to enable you to have a pop at the more detailed posts from the teleconnections posters with their big words and long sentences?
  7. Ah, it's discredited old chestnut time of year again I see.
  8. Is there anything more sadly beautiful than this if you love the summer? https://youtu.be/4ZQWr7cF0eY An old friend back in the early 80s used to take delight in singing the first line from any time after mid August, normally when we were sitting outside a Bristol pub drinking and revelling in the outdoors. In hindsight I'm surprised we never went further than telling him to f off!
  9. Let us know what you're proposing by way of warnings please, and the audience they are seen by. I'm guessing you're happy for the scrutiny you apply to the MO, for example, to be applied to whatever the organisation is for whom you work?
  10. Hello on here, just a tiny post from me to say that this thread is great as it's balanced and kind with lots of knowledge being shared. I'm as far from technically knowledgeable as it's possible to be but I love writing about weather almost as much as I love living it and it's lovely to find this rather slower paced and thoughtful thread. Thanks.
  11. Onions peeling start now on the gain, balls round in shaping, primmed as we go and take the WAA into the heights.... and await the finish of model beats in minds ya'll so rememba no cold means that's shallot.
  12. Steady moderate rain in the Surrey Hills. Nothing convective. Wonderful evocative smell that comes from rain on hot ground after a warm and dry spell.
