  1. May 2012 must be a classic example of this, very cool first ~3 weeks followed by an exceptionally warm spell that was warmer than most of the summer that followed. Maybe January 2013 as well? Bookended by mild spells but with a very noteworthy cold and snowy snap in the middle of the month. You could probably describe a fair few Septembers here as well, which have warm spells and then switch into Autumnal and colder conditions - 2020 being one example.
  2. These events are not necessarily my 'favourites', just the ones most memorable to me from before I started following weather more geekily. Jan 2013 - struggling to get to school (which somehow stayed open most days) in the car because of the snow - other cars were literally abandoned on the side of the street. That cold/snowy spell doesn't seem to get the attention that some others do. 28th Feb-2nd March 2018 - recall it just getting colder and snowier day by day. On the 28th I was on the bus home late and worried if I'd get back in the snow, and on the 2nd I went to work through through the deep, settled snow in town. The weather stayed generally cool, cloudy and unsettled until mid-April pretty much, and then of course we had that very sunny May-July. A dramatic several months of weather. 16th Oct 2017 - ex-hurricane Ophelia turning the sky orange that morning was fascinating, I was at work and sat there in the office baffled. Jan 2010 - I seem to recall this and the school closures more than December of the same year, for some reason. I think we just got so used to that sort of weather in the winter's months of 2010. Winter 2014 - less specific memories of this, but obviously was aware of how notably wet it was and how the more rural parts of Somerset were being flooded. I think the snowlessness was also probably quite notable after the previous few winters.
  3. Except it literally is pretty much the warmest on record...
  4. These are somewhat hard to define as of course weather tends change by year but here's a rough idea of them for me. Favourite - - There's sometimes a moment in September where summer definitively transitions to Autumn and a nice cooler theme kicks in. In 2012 this happened around 10 days in, in 2019 and 2020 it happened around 3 weeks in. September also still offers up some pleasant evening sunsets I find. - March. Feels like quite a varied month in some ways. Some years offer sunnier and milder weather to get in the mood for spring, other years it stays cloudy and wintry which is also interesting, and sometimes it's just something pleasant in between. - Around the first week of April. days lightening up, mood sometimes improving, and in a good year still offers up some nice chilly weather. Least favourite - - late May. Can sometimes be uncomfortably warm and you've still got the whole summer to come (although sometimes the first part of June is actually then cooler). - January. Post-Christmas blues and closing the curtains by about 3.30. - Late June. The warmest part of the summer is underway and has the most scope for warmth and an overly strong sun. However, cool and cloudy spells at this time of year are very pleasant.
