  1. The Lake District fells will be doing well today... front has stalled over them. Deep snow over the tops
  2. Light rain... nothing like the radar would suggest You could probably get away without needing a waterproof.
  3. FWIW local temps here are widely lower than forecast... looking on wunderground everywhere is locally 1 or 2*c having been forecasted to be around 4 or 5, with the lowet temps not expected til after 6am. One of the major issues weve had is that surfaced would be too warm. I doubt that will be the case, we may see some upgrades.
  4. I wouldnt be too upset. For 2 reasons 1. Ive seen time and time again forecasts from day 3 be more accurate than the forecast the day before. Theres still plenty of time for surprises and upgrades. Automated and hi res forecasts are our worst enemy , i cant remember the last time they were accurate for or against snow. 2. Its expected to thaw the next day, although saying that, there is a small chance the snow may reactivate on the 2nd front moving through. Go with the flow and what will be will be. We dont allow surprises to have their moment...
  5. Dark Horse I was living in Ashton around 2002-2004 and there were plenty of snow events around those parts. Christmas day and boxing day 2004 as an example. There were a handful of snow events in that time period that put down 3-4" easily. They werent bad years for snow. Infact the more i think about it, 2006 wasnt too bad, and neither was 2008, I remember making a few snowmen with my son around that time, he would have been about 4 or 5
  6. was saying to my brother before, this is an old school scenario of - go to school, it snows and by the time you leave, its all gone. Kids today need to learn all abut this kind of disappointment. It hardens you
  7. alot of forecasts moving back to a position of sleet this afternoon from a number of morning upgrades for Wirral, Heswall still holding out to be snowy, given it has a slight elevation. Im hoping this is just an automated update, rather than actual forecast.
  8. Metoffice upgrade for Wirral, and seemingly BBC as a downgrade. Its usually the other way round. very odd. Metoffice is usually the most pessimistic.
  9. Big upgrade for meto for our automated forecast... going for 6 orn7 hrs of heavy snow for bromborough
  10. So ive seen some pretty heavy snow this week in Iceland. It started off rainy and 4*c but quickly flipped over to sub zero and -20uppers straight off greenland. Did lots of stuff, but this was a fissure between the tectonic plates... we arrived and it just bucketed down. We had about 6inches over the day. Later that day we sat outside in a geothermal pool - the sky lagoon. It was about -4 or -5*c under a strong arctic wind and another snowshower blew in. We could barely keep our heads out of the water which was approx 40*c warmer. Was such an incredible experience
  11. Day 10 Had several of these in Reykjavik last week. Even enjoyed one in an outdoor geothermal spa. Ill try and select the most shareable and put a post up a bit later. All ill say is, it was as incredible as it sounds.
  12. This may sound naff but i think knowing too much detail is what disappoints us more than the weather itself... I get quite nostalgic and miss the days of low res forecasts like this
  13. Just back from Reykjavik we had a very snowy spell which i hope im bringing back with me... we had a snow storm dumping about 6inches. Back to Thursday, Wirrals best snow events in my lifetime have come from this synoptic setup. Its high risk high reward. 2 orn3 times through my childhood did we get this... one i remember was feb 1996. Ive been waiting about 25 yrs for another one, such is the rarity. We might get more than 5cm snow.
  14. Its just arrived here... big jump in wind speed. Very sudden jump in average gusts.. hang onto your hats
  15. AROME forecasts a small windy spell 3-5pm, then dying back a little, then really ramping up quickly 9pm- 12. Seems to be following this format quite closely
  16. I think the really intense stuff moves thru 9-11pm. So potentially the calm before the storm
  17. Im thinking that, but from models there was always an appetizer around 6pm, with another lot moving through 8-10pm... and the radar supports this
  18. Very odd here on Wirral. The light dusting has stayed most of the day in the shade, with deeper pockets where tueaday snow has stayed. Its very fluffy dry frosty dustinf. No where is wet. Temps is 1*c DP is -0.5*c Yet we have sleet/rain.
  19. Irish sea starting to wake up on satellite, with a visible shift from northerly to north westerly in the showers forming. Cloud is building over the sea, so should see a few more shower blobs on the radar in the next hour or so
  20. aye forecast is here at the bottom of the page: BBC Weather - Home WWW.BBC.CO.UK Latest weather conditions and forecasts for the UK and the world. Includes up to 14-days of hourly forecast information, warnings, maps, and the latest editorial analysis and videos from the BBC Weather Centre. to be fair - we have done better than most, But the majority of the UK have seen naff all. This cold spell has been better than normal for my neck of the woods. Though we are still without a significant snowfall in over say 15-20 yrs?
