  1. You have to admit it's rather disconcerting when the chances of a nuclear winter are higher in the UK than a natural one!
  2. Looks like even the cold rains events have been downgraded to mild rain events for the south. Stay safe people!
  3. Some big cold rain events possible down south in the next week or two. Wet roads and even some overnight frosts could prove hazardous for southerns, who are not used to extreme winter conditions! Stay tuned for warnings!
  4. 20 - 30 cm of snow slips by into Europe. A tough one to take this.
  5. Experience has taught me not to get excited until it's literally on your doorstep. Cold spells these days always tend to get watered down and the UK always seems to find a route to mild sooner rather than later. I bet if we moved the UK 1000 miles north east, the mild air would suddenly decide to go there, and copious amounts of cold and snowy weather would rush to where the UK used to be lol. That's just how it is. The UK's snow shield rarely fails these days. When it's mild it rains forever, when it's cold it's like the Gobi desert. Actually come to think of it the Gobi desert probably gets more snow!
  6. If there is a route to mild air, no matter how unlikely, the UK will normally find it. Only very rarely does the "cold is hard to shift" phrase come into play in the UK. It's the exception rather than the rule.
  7. Nice to see Europe getting some proper early winter weather. Sadly the UK is pre-programed to nearly always find a route to mild no matter what is going on around it.
  8. Darren Bett pretty much dismissed any chance of snow down south. Maybe some for the tops of the hills on Dartmoor, but other than that dry and cooler than average.
  9. I remember these huge storms coming up from France in the past, but that rarely seems to happen these days in the this part of the world. Now the most likely breakdown from hot spell is either a dry cloudy breakdown, or a light rain breakdown. Strange how that has changed quite dramatically in the last few decades.
  10. And with this epic cold rain spell coming to an end. It's time time to start looking for the first 70F.
  11. Another big cold rain warning for tonight! Temps once again should be just that fraction too high for snow. Stay safe people. We are almost through this severe spell of cold rain weather, with warmer rain moving in over the weekend and into next week.
  12. Just remember to look 10 days into the future all the time.
  13. Some of the coldest rain ever experienced here. Fast becoming an epic cold rain event that will be talked about for years no doubt.
  14. Another cold rain weather warning this morning. Remember to take care out there on any damp surfaces.
  15. Very dark here. A cold rain drizzle warning in full effect.
  16. To be fair recent springs have been pretty sunny and warm. We are normally hitting the low to mid 70's down here in the Essex Mediterranean with copious amounts of sunshine.
  17. Things nearly always get downgraded the closer we get to them. Not sure why people continually fall for it. The fact is it takes all the stars to align to get a decent cold spelling in January these days.
  18. Lol. If you want snow head south to the med! Meanwhile in the UK the polar vortex SSW thingy might give up some sleety slush if we are lucky! But even this will be downgraded once we get to the actual event.
  19. Very benign winter again, not uncommon. Even in the summer down here things are pretty benign, warmer, drier, sunnier and less thunderstorm activity. Who knew that global warming would give this part of the world such a pleasant climate? I thought the warming was supposed to make the weather more active.
  20. Living in a low lying area down south. I know that realistically for me there is only 3 weeks left for a long lasting snow event, which I class as a week or more of deep cold with snow on the ground. Once we get to mid Feb we can still get a cold snap, 2-3 days with some snow, but due to the sun's height any snow soon starts to melt, if it settles at all. I'm glad we saw that cold spell in December where the snow stayed on the ground for about a week, but once we get to mid Feb my thoughts turn to the first 70F of the year.
  21. Unfortunately that's how it is for the UK. Mild weather always finds a way, whereas as cold winter weather rarely does.
  22. Amazing! You've got to hate the Atlantic ocean when you consider that London is further north than all of these places!
