  1. Well, It took me 3 hours to get into work this morning (from 06:30). Snow on the hills in Rossendale, Heavy snow in the Ribble Valley all the way to Addingham in West Yorkshire. Which reminds me.......I am never getting a rear-wheel drive car....ever.....again!
  2. Typical!!! The only presenter they have that is both accurate and funny. Rob is also pretty much the only one who does not treat you like an idiot and gives "proper" information about the forcast. Most of the ones they have give the most mundane forecasts. You now the ones... "a bit of rain here" "some wind there" "a patronising smile coming in from the west with no explaination at all". And Rob is also one of the few that will actually explain why we have the weather we have and "shock of shocks" actually give you the bigger picture outside of the UK. For me, they (BBC) can get rid of anybody else except Rob. He's the only thing my partner and I look foward to after the usual doom-and-gloom and over dramatized news the BBC seem to be intent on dishing out. Bl**dy BBC! Does this mean I can now "axe" my license fee as a cost saving measure against idiots?
  3. Snowing again! Just a quick shot of what it looks like here
  4. Hi! Fellow Rossendale here! Best be careful, we just had another heavy dumping of snow. Easily 7 inches here in the hills near Stacksteads/Waterfoot.
  5. Been snowing on and off for hours now. Got aanother 2 inches last night and all my hard work ploughing the driveway has been fuuitless...immediately started snowing again and got anther inch! About 6 to 8 inches of snow now an now signs of letting up :winky:
  6. I grew up in Worsley! We had an overnight minimum of -9.3 here (Last years record was -9.6) Currently -4.7, and can see the clouds moving in over the hills...here's hoping!
  7. Now -4.2 Think we might break last years record of -9.6 at this rate!
  8. Going to be REALLY cold in the hills of Rossendale tonight! The skies are clear and it's already - 3.6
  9. Suprised you were only at -3.6 considering where you are. We got -5.1 last night here
  10. You might find that the houses where the snow is melting off the rooftops have poor insulation. So the air temp is below 0, but the heat radiating out of the house up through the roof is melting the snow.
  11. We have 3 inches here! Currently -3.3 with an over night low of -5.1 Happy bunny here
  12. I agree! Hello fellow Rossendalian! I have to say we are pretty lucky up here though. We moved to the valley about 5 years ago and we have had snow every winter so far. I think we have our own little micro-climate as we seem to get more than anyone else in east lancashire ( alohtough being 300m asl helps!). I remember about 3 years back when we had about 6 inches here, while in Rochdale it was sunny with no snow at all!
  13. I have to say although I too do not condone theft, I think there is too much focus on the hacking of this data. I bet there is a flip side where everyone would think it was alright and cheer on the hackers! E.G. Headline: "Hackers steal data that reveals a cure for cancer that the goverment wanted to keep secret" BEFORE...anyone starts on that example, I am not saying for one second the government (any) would want to keep something like that secret, BUT you know what I mean. P.S. Think Watergate...do you think that info would ever have been released by choice? And dont pull the Freedom of Information Act on that one either...you can bet the data would have been destroyed eventually.
  14. 4 inches of snow and blizzard-like conditions outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I doubt I be gettign to work this morning! I certainly wasn't expecting this! Will post photos when I get them
  15. I have to say that it annoys me when the goverment take this sort of stance. A quick fix approch as usual that will take an enormous amount of time to sort out when they decide to de-commission the reactors. Why the hell cant the same amount of money put aside for this be put into Hydrogen research? We know it can work, we know it is completely clean and if they thought it though, they could use solar and wind energy to create the hydrogen....off shore in the very place where the water needed can be found!!! a fuel cell the size of a car could probably run hundereds of homes with the only waste being water! Abnd before anyone says "ah welll, there is no infrastructure", we already have gas pipes yes? That lead directly into homes? They already have many petrol staions the deliver LPG, surely the very same thing can be done for Hydrogen? And Honda have proved that cars can run very well indeed with the Honda Clarity I honestly wonder how long it would really take to get hyfrogen into practice if they (the government and business) decided to redirect nuclear money to hydrogen research and infrastructure? How long does it take to build a nuclear power station and get it online? And then times that by 8. If there were a willingness, I would lay money that Hydrogen would take the same amount of time to get started. Arrrghhhhh!!!!!!!! Rant over P.S. Thisi is also coming from a guy who has just seen one of the largest on-shore wind farms put up in his back garden (26 of the bu**ers) that never turn and have just ruined the the pennine hills in Rossendale. Next time anyone if driving along the M62 near Rochdale, take a look. Even though there about 13 miles from that point, you can see them all clear as a bell. Horrible! Get them off-shore!!! Sorry...second rant over......maybe! lol
  16. Yeeeeessss!!!!!! Shame it's the wrong day though! It's for the 4th of January
  17. Hi everyone? Not posted for a while but this one made me think. As the wild fires in California rage (affecting around 240,000 acres at time of writing) and the huge smoke plumes can be see spreading across into the Pacific (NASA have some pretty high resolution images of it), I was wondering if this might affect our winter this year. I guess I am taking it from the point of view that large volcanic eruptions can give a colder winter due to increased "global dimming" and wondered if the these fires might cause a similar thing on a smaller scale? Quite selfish I know to hope that we might get a boost for colder weather based on their mis-fortune, but a thought all the same. By the way, this is not a "will it increase Global Warming/CO2 issue as it's obvously not going to help, but about our forthcoming winter and the effect this might have on it Apologies if this is in the wrong area by the way
  18. I mentioned this some time ago about splitting it into several areas such as Northern England CET, Midlands CET, Souther CET and then a separate Welsh and Scottish CET......but if I remember correctly I was largely rebuffed for it I still thing it would be a better idea and so agree with you
  19. frost this morning Current Conditions: 7 oC 1001Mb (absolute) Sunny 0% cloud cover Slight Haze
  20. Hi all! Just started snowing here. Only light and small but consistent. Temp is about 1.6 oC and the pressure is slowly falling. Currently at 986Mb.
  21. Been Snowing on and off all day. Sticking to the higher hills. Current Temp = +1.9
  22. Slight frost, although shaded areas are still iced. Overnight low of 2.0 C
  23. Might have to get hold of a Daily express....just for the pictures That aside, with many shouting "Mild winter ahoy" and many jumping around saying "Deck the halls with negative NOA's....fa-la-la-la-laa, la-la-la-laa", it seems to me that we really have not got clue! Yes you can say this points to that and vice-versa, but when you think about how many variables we don't take into account, how we can't forecast much beyond week with a high degree of accuracy, combined with even when we do it can change at the drop of a hat.....I say I want a cold winter but we'll get what we are given and have to wait and see. Besides...we are stil 55 days off the start of winter!
