  1. Absolutely lovely day. Casting my mind back to this time last year and we're in a much better position I'd say. It really does just take those few days at or around 20C to make the difference overall. I'll be semi-content for another week or so after today and tomorrow with it being largely dry still. Looks like next weekend may deliver another nice warm spell (too early to be confident of course), but weekends are faring better for once.
  2. SunSean yeah I take back my comment about sun hahaha
  3. Almost fascinating weather today. Can’t think of any other time there has been such a combination of warm, sunny, and windy, let alone at this time of year! Has a late summer feel outside on my balcony this morning.
  4. damianslaw it’s certainly on a knife edge! Either way wouldn’t be what you’d necessarily want out of the first 20c of the year with how strong those winds would be
  5. I might stick my neck out and say first 20c this weekend 6th April, if the sun stays out long enough on Saturday
  6. I can’t help feel we’ve switched from forecasts predicting a best case scenario to now predicting a worst case scenario i.e. the weather is coming out better than it looked. Maybe this is some sort of a turning point in our fortunes? Either way as far as March BH weekends go, it’s been pretty sunny and felt very spring like. This week will be a struggle if it’s as grey, wet and windy as it looks, but wouldn’t be surprised if we tap into some brief warmth by the weekend - if a little brisk! The thing is it’s not been cold so when we do get any dry/brightness it’s actually alright.
  7. Hands down the sunniest day since January. There’s been blue since dawn even with varying cloud levels. Might have even got my first little bit of colour can ye imagine!
  8. I'll go for 39.5C at Heathrow airport on the 27th of July.
  9. *Stormforce~beka* Thank you! Hugs to you too, we all need it at the mo I feel although today was pretty nice until the evening. It's not cold which is definitely one thing, and there are signs of it becoming drier, brighter and calmer next week. We shall see!
  10. It really is getting hard to bare now isn't it. Even the warmer 'drier' days look windy and sunless. 17c in March should be something to look forward to but I can't see it feeling very springlike Late Feb/March is the time I need some sun the most - expectations aren't even that high, just some calm, bright weather to feel like the season is changing (tbf Saturday was kind of like that here). I think that's why it feels so much worse, especially when it's the second year in a row with these conditions. You know it's bad when even I'm having a right old moan.
  11. (Late entry apologies) I'll go for 7.8C and 54mm please
  12. SunSean my thoughts exactly! Makes no sense. How do we get this on the government agenda?
  13. Another very spring-like day here in London (IMO). Bright and calm, feeling very pleasant in the sun. I can't say I've observed buds and leaves appearing this much this early before. All of the daffodils are out. I wish they'd bring the clocks going forward, forward a month in line with February being the new March as it seems
  14. This is an interesting observation and mirrors the thoughts I've had to a tee which shows it may be on to something! I've thought of these as mini 'subseasons' such as the predictability of a false spring in February followed by a second winter in March. Then the end of September being another one. Also, the late November and early December cold spells followed by mediocre winters are apparent too. It's strange, I wonder what causes these or if we just notice these interseasonal episodes more because they highlight the first noticeable changes?
  15. Really feels like Spring has begun now (and I'm out of an apparent posting-hibernation). Sunday and Monday were quite pleasant in the sun, and noticing the increased warmth and brightness from the sun too. Then today was something else. Don't think we reached a temperature that high here last year until the very end of April!! Does anyone know the official max for today and where? Hopefully this will be a taste of things to come as I'm ready for spring official now - although winter tends to have one final sting some time around the end of Feb or early March.
  16. Been a funny old week here. Woken up every morning to see the ground wet, but it's already dried out and brightening up. Then every afternoon has been filled with glorious blue skies for a good chunk. Got caught in a hailstorm on a walk yesterday afternoon but either side was lovely. It feels like a different world to others who seem to be experiencing near constant deluge and little to no sun. Even the winds have been almost non-existent. Leaves starting to turn now so all in all feeling very seasonal.
  17. This October has given me a bit of everything I would've wanted so far. Some warmth to start, then a mixture of crisp/pleasant sunshine with chilly mornings, and some storminess. Today is stunning - 16c with mostly blue skies and calm conditions. I feel like I've missed the rain when it's happened, only needed an umbrella/hood a couple of times. Definitely don't want months of dreary greyness but if ever there were a time to embrace the wind and rain (coming this week) it's the second half of autumn! Time to carve pumpkins and get cosy
  18. Really interesting looking through that table. I'd bag the 1771-1800 - amongst the coldest winters and summers that sit between 1961-1990 & 1971-2000. Was there perhaps a more continental influence at that time?
  19. 11.8c and 77mm please. Lovely warm first half, stormy middle, cooler settled end.
  20. I came to see if anyone else was witnessing this storm. Haven’t seen anything like it for a very long time. Non-stop lighting up of the sky!
  21. Definitely agree with the consensus on here that June was great (10 for me) July was pretty poor (3) and August was alright (5.5), would've been 6 but the BH weekend just took it down a notch. If July had even a short heatwave in the second half of the month I think I'd regard this summer as one to remember. I do consider May and September an extended summer period so overall I'm satisfied with this year.
