It was the 15th and especially the 16th of February 1979 when more snow fell on that day than any other day on record. There were about 4ft of snow fell with drifts half way up the telegraph poles and the A17 in Lincolnshire was cut off as so was every other road with temperatures many degrees below freezing. The 16th was a Thursday. On the Friday, the wind had dropped, the snow had stopped and everything was still. No birds whistling, it was if an atomic bomb had been dropped the previous day and we were in the fallout. January 1987 was nearly as bad. We'd had a foot of snow a few days ago and then the next day another foot fell in a blizzard. All the roads were closed in Lincolnshire and Kent.
