South East and East Anglia Regional Discussion 12th March 2013
TP85 replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
Still snowing here in Haywards Heath, blowing around in the wind and all looking very impressive. Must be a good few inches level snow outside with some drifting but I haven't ventured out yet.- 775 replies

Is the ppn out to the SW of Cornwall the stuff that could impact the SE tomorrow? It looks like it's getting itself organised quite nicely at the moment...

London and South East Regional Discussion - Part 565

Light but convincing, I like that... Much the same here in Haywards Heath! -
A pretty decent snowfall in Haywards Heath today. I'd estimate around 3 inches - pre December 2010 I would have been ecstatic about that but nothing quite matches up to the foot of snow we had a couple of years back. Still, I'm very grateful to have seen snow today when others haven't been so lucky - here's hoping that the whole region gets dumped on on Sunday

Good to see someone else from Haywards Heath on here! Hoping for some real snow tonight after last night's disappointment...

Tried and failed to get to Bognor Regis by train this morning. Got as far as Three Bridges but everything's being cancelled pretty much. Another couple of inches here in HH overnight - certainly more than I was expecting. Bit of a pain really but no point getting upset about it! -
I'm supposed to be going from Haywards Heath to Bognor Regis by train tomorrow morning for a PGCE interview - does anybody know whether I'm likely to make it in or not?

Just got back from a holiday in the States and it's really bizarre to see that Haywards Heath has as much snow as the bit of Vermont that I was staying in! A good 7 inches here, it's starting to thaw but we've had snow on and off all day, moderately heavy at times. Quite nice to come back to!

Ok, the radar might be a bit crappy then. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I just think a lot of places will see rain, sleet or wet snow which will only speed up the thaw, as opposed to snow that settles on top of what people already have. I'm entirely happy to be proved wrong though! -

The amount of snow in the band of precipitation seems to be diminishing though... I'm guessing that a few areas will get a lot of snow, most will have any snow currently lying washed away by rain or sleet and that almost everybody will have a lot of ice to deal with in the morning. My link -

Light rain in Haywards Heath ahead of the band approaching from the west. Still not expecting anything substantial to be on the ground come morning but this piddly little shower is irritating nonetheless -

Expecting nothing more than sleet/rain here in West Sussex which will no doubt wash away the remainder of the snow left over from Thursday night. Isn't it funny how no matter how well we do, we're never satisfied? This is without a doubt the best cold spell I have experienced in England during my 24 years - 5 inches of snow on Thursday, another dusting last night and with no thaw whatsoever until today, and yet I'm still gutted that it looks like it's coming to an end! Never mind, off to New York and Vermont for ten days over New Years P.S. Awful conditions around the M25/M26 coming back from Kent this afternoon, felt even worse when I got home to find we'd had rain. -

Glad you got some! It's fantastic here, hoping to get out in it later on. Had a bit of a sketchy moment in the car last night, it's my first time driving in snow, so that's been interesting! Anyway, have a good day - hope you get more a bit later on -

Yes indeed Jason, I'm much more of a lurker than a poster these days but on an occasion like this, you pretty much have to log in and happily gloat don't you?! How much did you get in Eastbourne? -

4-5 inches here in Haywards Heath (West/East Sussex border) - I think that's more than we had in February but I was flying to Mozambique that day so didn't really get a chance to go out with a ruler... -

Thanks Roger, that's very helpful! Looks like it's pretty mild for the time of year in the North East at the moment though? -

I'm going to be in NYC for New Year's this year and then spending the first week of January in southern Vermont - looking at average statistics for that area it looks like I'm pretty much guaranteed snow and sub-zero temperatures but does anyone know that area well enough to give me any more details of what I can expect? -

Snow hammering down again now - heading off to Heathrow any minute in the hope of catching my flight tonight - it's still scheduled to depart as normal but a lot could happen between now and 6pm -

It's not looking great - frustrating as once we're in the air it would be fine but whether we'll ever get there is another matter. I'm supposed to be catching a connecting flight to Mozambique tomorrow morning so even if we just experience delays we could have big problems, as the next flight to Beira from Jo'burg isn't until Thursday to my knowledge. -

I'm supposed to be flying out of Heathrow at 6pm to Jo'burg - I'm not getting my hopes up :-/ -
Can't believe it - the cold weather's hitting on Monday and I'm flying out to African summer for 3 and a half weeks that same evening! Last time we had proper snow back here was in April... and I was in the south of France! Must stop travelling.

Down to -8.5c here, coldest night so far
-
Lots of hail showers throughout the afternoon which have just melted as they hit the ground - just had another one set in which was heavy enough to start sticking around, with gusts of wind causing little drifts to appear up against walls Now it's turned into proper snow for the first time today and we have white stuff lying on the ground for the first time this winter!

Amazing photos! I think my jaw would have been scraping the ground as well.
