  1. Looks like you are going to get hit after all! ... although maybe thats a good thing. --
  2. hey Capt. That storm is a long ways from you on the radar... looks like it will miss you... but you should see a lot of lightning bolts...just no rains.
  3. Looking at the radar...looks (at least to me) that the storm line is more cohesive...rains should last a good hour. *even the political media maniacs on BBC TV, are acknowledging the ongoing storm... as the vote count continues. --
  4. re: where is the rain? I'd think the blast wave of flood-rains should be there in NW London by now. What traffic is out there now....its all 10mph
  5. It would seem a great many are going to be woken up across the next hour or two. Fierce storm line headed north..few will escape this (surprising) September overnight storm.
  6. Wow, HEAVY big fat snow in NW2. If this last more than an hour, roads gonna seize up in the city. --
  7. Well hey, big fat 'forrest gump' snow now falling in the north-west of the city. A real surprise, although it certainly feels icy this night. Is everyone else asleep right now already? Wake up London! Its snowing!
  8. Do we declare a state of emergency yet in the metropolis? Radar looks promising for a few more hours of at least fine powdery snow, thats easily enough to grind things to a complete lock up for the rest of the day. - Quite entertaining to all watch, the met office just got pwned again  You can't predict CHAOS! When will they learn?
  9. Good early morning to you crazy people Once again, blizzard conditions in the north-west of the metropolis. Everything snowed under, but its certainly most welcome. Will make for a nice pictorial Wednesday. - At least no quakes here.
  10. okay  , my use of the word 'blizzard' does not fit the official term. Yet, its a bit breezy, and its big fat forrest gump type snow coming down...for me..thats a...blizaard B) - Radar shows nothing to the SE, so I guess this is just one of those weird streamer things...maybe, or we are just getting a bit lucky this night. Regardless, this is kinda yet another bonus for those in the city. How many days of snow is this? I ain't counting, but we must be up to 15/17 by now, and its now even mid January yet!
  11. omg, blizzard conditions in the NW2 section of the mighty metropolis - I'd not even have looked, were it not for the lunatics in the BB house, had just mentioned it ! - Wow, what a surprise.
  12. Hmm...a rather sleepy evening at the mall in NW2. Fog is super thick here, even with lights, visibility is down to 50 yards, and its icy fog for sure! -- Still snow lying on the ground, thats 6 days running now. A record for 2 decades in the city? Perhaps.
  13. 90mins at least, so fair chance for a few inches. Maybe a bit more, but no still, its not that deep a precip band, so...can't expect too much. Maybe it'll stall though? 12 hours of this, and London will be closed for rest of 2009
  14. Night falls over the icy city, the drivers move ever faster, it is not going to end well for some this evening. Here at the Mall, big ole' forest gump 'fat snow' flakes, making travelling exceedingly nasty. The radar does look to offer maybe a fair bit more, for those west of the city, I'd think those in Reading should be on DEFCON'2 right now for serious snow problems. *Is that Moses outside? Is that why the London snow-shield has fatally failed this Christmas? ALl hail....the 11'th commandment. Thous shall see snow at Christmas time in the city!
  15. Wow, this is rather impressive. This must be the fifth day in a row that snow has fallen over the city. When was the last time that happened? The early 80s maybe? - Regardless, the evening shoppers are having a hard time getting to the mall in the current mini snowstorm in NW2. yours...watching Moses.
  16. NW london, there was just a very unusual cloud line passing through here. It was the leading edge of what is currently a quite active T-Storm. I've not seen such cloud movement in a long while, really crazy, moving all sorts of directions. Those in the core of the city, keep ya eyes on the skies to your North. Its really turbulent up there this afternoon!
  17. Such a cute little thing, Ike is now a major cane. -- Indeed, those on the Florida east coast should wake up now, and realise they might actually get a direct hit. I heard that east coast Florida hits are very rare these days, and so I can only guess the locals are very ill prepared. Calrissian: kick the baby, don't kick the baby. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  18. http://mfile.akamai.com/12912/live/reflector:38201.asx coverage of the two loose HUGE cargo ships. They are anchored, but not moored with ropes. -- Meanwhile, the overtopping certainly looks as serious as anything we've seen so far. I'd still suggest another 6-18 hours when the pressure will be a critical issue. Calrissian: awaiting Hurricane Hanna, TS Ike...and TD'10
  19. but its going to keep on rising for 12-18 hours I'd think. The loose barge/ship could easily weaken a levee wall. I've even read reports of cracks, although with so many miles of walls, that'd not be surprising. but don't worry, the Bush will address the world in less than an hour. All is saved! -- Calrissian: toppled over.
  20. 2 ships broke loose in the canal. A real threat possible. -- *meanwhile, we now have Tropical Depression'9. Ike...coming soon. Calrissian: kick the baby! Don't kick the baby... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  21. I have about 10 feeds running at the same time! ,lol It is confusing my brain though, CNN+hurricane city+WWL+WCDU,..etc...its hurts the neurons. --- The media seem really focused on the industrial canal, and I've seen plenty of stuff on it. The walls are 15ft high or so, and were heavily reinforced post-katrina. They look really good, but if the water level is another 2-3 ft higher, even if the levee holds, the water will just pour over and flood the area regardless. *the convection in the SW sector Gustav is VERY impressive, and seems to be increasing with each hour. Calrissia: the Core'2 cpu really helps !
  22. okay, I think this is still being underplayed a bit... The media have been really jumping ahead too much. All this talk of 'ohh, its not too bad at all, we escaped'. Do they not remember 3 yrs ago? It wasn't until a day after that the floods started. A DAY. I would not feel in the least bit assured until Wednesday. -- Meanwhile, Grand Isle is mostly covered in water, the levees are being steadily over-topped, and the water levels are relentlessly increasing. Ohh, and the rains are really yet to really start in the northern sector, so there is a lot of water due to flow down into the lakes and then move south. A VERY long day ahead.
  23. re: levees I'd dare say I am sure most will be just fine, but might be a few breaks in 1-3 places. Depends on whether the breaks are in the worse areas. Of course, it looked all fine post Katrina for an entire day, before the breaks occured. So, if I would not feel reassured until sometime late Tuesday/Wednesday. -- Meanwhile, overall convection is much stronger than a few hours ago... http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t1/loop-avn.html It is also clear the storm is indeed expanding more westward. Might the centre be pulled west, and stay off the land? Hmm, a long day ahead of all those in Louisiana. -- **meanwhile, the Atlantic NHC map looks like a dartboard. 1 cane, 1 TS, 1 low, and 3 other invests. Calrissian:
  24. Watching the live feed for WWL TV, the two hosts, do seem very positive about matters. They are very confident that the storm is weaker than they feared, and that flooding does not appear to be likely A Cat'3 major cane on their doorstep, and they are so sure. Hmm. Looks to me like eye is real close to grand isle, so all that low lying land will surely be covered. Long day ahead. Calrissian: welcome to September
