1. Round two... Loudest and closest strikes I have ever heard! WOOOW!!
 2. Few good CG's & very deep rumbles just to the north of RAF Benson now... Didn't really expect anything tonight but this group of cells seems to be getting quite potent... Lightning Maps is pretty accurate too by the looks of things!
 3. Had a very active storm pass through Benson/Wallingford in Oxfordshire about an hour ago - torrential rain, flash flooding and frequent CC Lightning. Cleared up quickly as soon as it passed with lots of evaporation from the standing water… Looked like traffic on approach to Heathrow was being sent over here too for a while in the clear air so guessing there's probably some activity near to the Lambourne hold? It's just started to build again and we've had a huge, long peel of thunder in the last couple of minutes. Will try to get some pics as this one passes and post on here/Twitter as best I can!
 4. Looking very stormy to the South & South West of Oxford right now-convection has really ramped up in the last 30 mins & can see lots of virga falling from a high Ac Cas base... Will try to get a pic now-this could be fun!
 5. Robbie, Dude, I have, in a roundabout way tried to get you to stop continually posting 'Aviation' weather reports/TAF's/METARS etc willy nilly in the past. Truth is, these quotes don't always add much to the conversation and tend to instill more confusion than they generate; With their very specific formats & acronyms which often only benefit professional aviators travelling through/around certain features... Like I have previously stated, I appreciate your enthusiasm and the fact that you are broadening YOUR understanding of one aspect of your aviation studies but PLEASE, start your own thread where these things can be discussed if you feel the need. Those of us who get it will happily join you and thus exponentially increase your learning rate... Sorry all, I know I am kinda going off topic myself but these things do not help the 'convective' discussion & it just makes the professional aviators amongst us look like knobs! (Pardon my French) ! Have a good night all & Fingers Crossed for some action for those of us who are lucky enough... Get the cameras charged & at the ready!
 6. What's the CAVOK region dude?! :S Also, Mode S is mandatory if flying in CAS, just throwing it out there... Not meaning to sound derogatory but all this 'Aviation Speak' when one has a comparatively small understanding of the subject can become a little tedious! Appreciate your enthusiasm though! On a slightly lighter note - that CB heading in your direction looks very impressive from where I am just south of Oxford... After signs of some pretty strong convection here earlier, it now appears to be being 'cut off' by the lower level convection. Fingers crossed for something later!
 7.
Are you on PC or Mac? If you are on a Mac then I can highly recommend Apple Aperture... Its relatively cheap, great for organising and storing your pics & allows you to do some pretty powerful editing in the software too! Better than shelling out £££'s for Photoshop if you don't need the extra tools it provides! Failing that, 4wd's thoughts are pretty much spot on; Lightroom and GIMP is a god combo & will save lots of money over Photoshop. Some good GIMP tutorials on YouTube too!

If you don't do much editing with your RAW files then its probably best to shoot in JPEG (at max resolution), as they will already be sharpened & saturated straight out of the camera (And much smaller files!). Save RAW for when you're working in difficult light and may need to work on the White Balance etc when you get home... Just my 2p worth but worth a thought!

 8. Looks to be a developing CB on the horizon to the West of Staffordshire. Probably over the North of Shropshire/South Cheshire. It grown from nothing in about 15 mins - anyone over that way confirm if it's upto much? Definitely looks promising in our area for later as the sun gets to work!
 9. Hi all, Long time since i've been on as i've been away with work... Nice to see it so busy here still! I'm down in Benson just south of Oxford at the moment - seen nothing all day except for a few distant CB's. Have just been outside to the car though and there is a beautiful and menacing looking CB building directly over the Benson area. REALLY dark base and the tops are so high they are lit up a deep orange by the sun which is below the horizon now. Awesome sight - will try to get some pics! Not convinced anything will come of it, but just goes to show that there is still some CAPE out there with the sun going down and the air cooling! Regards to all and here's to a decent home storm season! Matt
