Not quite sure where this should go but someone needs to look at the front page "who has one"...er...should that be "who has won"..... Senior moment someone?

More than a bit blowy overnight I would have said! Much worse than some of the supposed recent storms! Temp - 12.0C Press - 991 Falling Pouring down.

It was all caused by a narrow but aggressive cold front which moved directly South at speed. It dropped temps by 5 to 8 degrees in many places. I remember in Farnham we had a lot of thunder, rain turning rapidly to snow and then it froze hard! What was interesting is that I watched the front come in from the North at dusk and you could see the cloud piled extremely high just in front of the cold front in the setting sun. It was very windy for the hour beforehand from the West which then swiftly turned to the North within a few minutes. Very dramatic stuff!!

More of the same re-hashed half truths garnished from various weather sites and, as usual, totally ingores all the caveats and postings they don't like. Utter cobblers.

Maybe, but I suspect there may be something else happening. I will continue to watch and gather evidence on the area. It's been an area of interest for a while now.

I've been watching the various weather radars as they have become more available over the last few years. Has anyone else noticed an increase in linear clouds feeds (streamers) where shower formations seem to be increasingly feeding in on thin persistant lines along the prevalent wind direction as compared to the past where they tended to scatter more. I was wonderng if this could account for an increase in localised flooding problems. Very recently I was in Pirbright (Surrey) on a Sunday when they had over 5 inches of rain in 4 hours from a very persistant stream of thuderstorms feeding down in a 10 mile wide corridor from North West London. The event was extreme and down to the pattern as described. The patterns obviously stand out on radar pictures and they really have become very common over the last two or three years. Feedback from others is most welcome!

Current Temp 2.3 degrees. Wet snow. Turned to sleety rain for a couple of hours around 1.00pm but now reverting to snow.

Farnham, Surrey. Temp was 0.1C at 6.00am now...er...falling for last 2 hours. From the Oregon Scientific: Temp: -0.3C falling slowly Humidity: 79%, steady Pressure: 10009mb, steady Overcast and not a breath of wind.

Currently -5.7 degrees. Clear. Dropping slowly.

I find this very encouraging given the immdediate switch to mild conditions as soon as EF nailed his colours to the cold January mast a couple of weeks back...... May go and stock up on food and candles immediately!
