  1. Agreed, in the short term we may see some blips towards cold but slowly and surely we are now highly unlikely to see any major snowfall which i guess is what many inc me were hoping for with all the SSW talk, i was after a good 1980's dumping alas i think the SSW really never lived up to it's hype. If your basing on the last 15 years then i would class this as just about an above average Winter, however, for me it's been very average, which, if the SSW has impacted then it really doesn't bode well for when it's absent.
  2. You are well respected on here here Chio as is TEITS and i admire both of you for your u/s of the models, however are you saying that the current Strat effect has been responsible for the current weather we are experiencing ? Forgive me if i am wrong but i am led to believe that we are only really going to feel the effects by the end of the month, so jury is still out, i think this is still very much a learning curve for all, if we see cold weather and heavy snow !!!, which is sooooooo very subjective depending on your age, in Feb then i think the whole Strat thing may be vindicated, however if we do not then in my eyes this Winter should be classed as normal, as the Strat effect viewed with caution, as i say it depends on what you are comparing to !
  3. Absolutely spot on, nail on the head and please note especially the last 9 words, this Winter is not over and i am fascinated to see how the Strat plays out the last month of winter but so far it has only pushed this Winter towards what i would call a normal average UK winter, it's only considered WOW becuase the youngsters on here have seen 10 years or more of pretty benign Winter Weather, i 1000000000 percent agree you cannot call Winter weather in this country beyond about 4 days and given the last couple of weeks even that is stretching it.
  4. Mmmm, Steve are you staying up all night over the weekend ??? I'll go 04.24 Sunday morning.
  5. well i won't get drawn into a protracted debate on this but i suggest looking back through the winter discussion where you will see senior forecasters also bemoaning, we have had more snow here today which is great for me but it all still lacks bite and it looks like it's about to tail off at least for a while given latest output, i guess some members expectations are higher than others especially when comparing to the past as many posts are currently doing, never the less Winter is far from over so jury is still out
  6. Been following this site for years, can't read an ECM from a GFS but when Winter starts i come on this model thread in the hope that i might once again see the experts predicting that we are on of the verge of another 81 Winter, i really thought this time having read all the comments about the Strat that this was it, we were on the verge of something special, i have to agree with SM, many posts even by the senior peeps on here were massively ramped, yes it's certainly an improvement on recent years but God how difficult is that, is this the best we can produce now in this country even when all the elements are in our favour ! Still wait in hope that some of the more extreme models may come to fruition but i really feel that we need to see a major change in world weather patterns to experience the winters we had had in the 70's and 80's, lay mens point of view,
  7. Yep not bad desipte all the worry by everyone on here this morning, yet still i wait for another 81/82 event,7 ft drfits and villages cut off in Northants and Leics, this is good but no cigar. For all who always ask how much and will it snow imby then only way is really knowing is to open the door look up and have a ruler handy for when it's finished, although i think the Meto did actually nail this one. Bring on Sunday when we may or may not get a shed load more.
  8. Snows stopped here now in Market Harborough, slight thaw. This latest cold spell was looking very promising certainly on the In Depth Model Discussion, some of the models were showing snowmeggadon this week, still may happen but extremely hard to predict, even the amount of snow we have had today was changing by the hour. Been a member on here for sometime now, always in the hope that we may one day see another 1981/82, once you have experienced this type of Winter everything else is a bit of a disappointment, we had driftiing across the main roads from one hedge to another followed by record low temps, where tractors had cleared the roads in the villages it was single track with the snow banked up 10ft high. Anyway starting to sound like my Dad, hopefully due to current synoptics we may may see some sort of bigger event than the current one !
  9. Snow porn, O joy O joy O joy, we have about 3-4" here in Market Harborough not quite the blizzards and snow drifts i remember as a kid in 87 but never the less a good enough effort , so much so that I feel moved to make my first post having been a lurker for some time. The past week has made fasanating reading someone should make a film with all the characters that keep this message board so interesting playing starring roles eg Teits and Nick Sussex not to mention West Is Best. By the way does anyone no if West had any snow
