  1. That year I was recovering from chickenpox. The month began with a memorable plume with intense thunderstorms moving northwards. The rest of the summer was poor.
  2. Heard distant thunder to my W/NW earlier and just now moderate rain shower. Winds now NW from SW.
  3. emax you're so very wrong again! To claim that the markets are nothing is so far out. The markets represent the monetary system, which underpins the banking system which underpins the economy and which is then represented in people's voting patterns. What do you think your pension is invested in? Tulip bulbs?
  4. Professor Nassim Nicholas Taleb being interviewed on BBC Radio 4 about the coronavirus from a risk perspective.
  5. Couple of points: 1. List of Coronavirus symptoms (comparing to cold and flu) have been printed in the newspapers as well as online. 2. Regarding Behavioural Science, Professor NN Taleb (@nntaleb) has again criticised, see tweet dated 15 March 2020 1.28pm.
  6. The potential ban of UK flights by President Trump and his team of advisers is also beginning to concentrate minds. Banning flights is a good example of reducing fat tail risk (see @nntaleb tweet 11/03/2020 6.20pm).
  7. 7c and 68mm please. Variable month, drier and one Spanish plume.
  8. My February 2020 forecast (see sig below) is likely wrong. 6.1c and 67mm please.
  9. Video montage of the extreme snowfall in Newfoundland (18 January 2020) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NtuDGzoxMY
  10. Regarding 2008, snow settled here in early April and late October.
  11. Further to the discussion about the potential early peak of SC25, have posted an interesting study from 2017 on the periodicity of solar activity and thereby revived a dormant resources thread! https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/14968-aurora-sun-activity-resources-thread/?do=findComment&comment=4122911
  12. Contrast analysis between the trajectory of the planetary system and the periodicity of solar activity Wei Sun et al, 2017 https://www.ann-geophys.net/35/659/2017/angeo-35-659-2017.pdf
  13. For P17 to verify, we need a conveyor belt of LPs to cross into Scandinavia/W Russia, a very cold pool to develop and then the HP to develop NW and advect the very cold pool SW to us. Quite a sequence!
  14. Solar Cycle 25 should begin in 2020. Variations of temp and precipitation against the 30 year average. Jet stream to be generally wavy, sometimes locked-in and occasionally very meridional. January - Milder and drier particularly in S. At least one Northerly toppler. February - Colder with widespread snow and ice days. see https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/92649-coldest-minima-winter-2019-2020-season-recordings-and-thoughts/?do=findComment&comment=4100013 March - Variable with first spanish plume. April - Wetter. May - Warmer. Drier in SE. June - Warmer and drier with occasional thunderstorms. July - Warmer and wetter. Another spanish plume - very hot and thunderstorms. August - Wetter, cooler. September/October - Wetter, milder and windier. First northerly toppler in late Oct with snow on Scottish mountains. November - Cooler. First snow on Northern Hills. NW-SE jet December - Cooler. Hill snow (NW-SE jet) becoming drier towards New Year. First dusting in London and melts before midday!
  15. Third successive night of rain. Saturday - very heavy, Sunday - hail and tonight - moderate.
  16. Generally southerly and NW-SE wavy jet. Hopefully a SibHP/ScandiHP combo retrogress in February 2020? Light E/ENE winds in Scotland. Dalwhinnie -19c
  17. lightish sleety mix for the last 10 mins. why can't these LPs move along the channel like in the old winter days!
  18. Re-started again after a brief pause! Seens to be a very slight change in wind direction, more N. 0030 MetO radar looks cool.
  19. Lovely powdery stuff like 1986, 1987 and 1991. Covering the roofs and pavements. Grass to be submerged soon. btw tastes nice too!
  20. Had a light snow shower at midday. Several have been close to the north and south. Looking forward to remainder of the day and into tommorow. Taken wellies from the garden shed into the porch in case of an overnight dumping.
