Hi, The last few days there has been a major snow event here. It has been snowing since Thursday night and the official depth this morning was 130cm in the village ( over 4 foot) and 240 cm on the mountain The forecast is for more snow in the next few days. Since living here I have not seen so much snow with most of it falling in the last week. We nearly have the same amount we had 3 winters ago where we had 150cm. The road to the next village is shut because of avalanche risk and I think I will have to clear the roof because of the weight of the snow. We are doing lots of snow clearing but running out of space to put the snow!! The piles are bigger then me. I will try and take some more photos tomorrow. The webcam is usually on during the day if you want to see the snow. http://austriasnow.camstreams.com/ The skiing is excellent and even on piste you are skiing though deep powder. Hi , Here are some pictures of the recent snow which is the fastest fall I have seen since moving here!!! About 50 cm in 24 hours!! Lots of snow clearing to do and the snow started to drift which is very unusually here!! There is now according to official figures 210cm on the mountain and 100cm in the village. This is getting near to the totals form 3 winters ago. Nigel

Hi, Really heavy snow here. have a look at my webcam:- http://austriasnow.camstreams.com/ We had 4 days of falling snow last week, but this is far heavier. We already have 75 cm and they estimate another 45 cm !!! The roads are getting quite bad and all cars have snow chains on . Looking at the radar there is more to come. Nigel

Hi, Just a quick update. It is now -3.5 oC and it has been snowing all night. We now have about 6 cm of snow. Was windy in the night but the snow has not drifted. It is now perfectly calm. Hi, Just reporting that our area has weather warnings for snow and strong winds for tonight and the weekend. Drifting snow in the village will be a new sight!! There are forecasting between 20 to 30 cm of snow. Hi, The cold air is even colder now. Down to -10.4 oC at night and the highest it has been since Saturday is a warm -2.2!!!oC [ ]. Currently at 8.25 am it is -8.8oC. We have had no snow since Saturday and the level is still only 65 cm!! and 165cm on the mountain. The forecast is for slightly warmer on Friday to Sunday maybe 2 oC then snow from Monday but we will have to see. What skiing at the weekend and the snow was perfect apart from the cold about -20 oC wind chill and -10 oC air temp.Plenty of powder and the sun did finally appear. No its not me -thats the driver of the snow plough you can see further up the road. He had stuck trying to push that large lump of snow and had to call in the snow blower!! Nigel

Hi The weather the last few nights have been cold down to -7 oC and daytime temp of about -2 oC although the sun has been warm. Current depth is :- 70cm in village and 150cm on the mountain. Hi, After several days of the snow melting in the village the temp is now -1.6 oC and its SNOWING very heavily. I went skiing at the weekend and the conditions were excellent even after the warmer spell last week. Although it never really got that warm on the mountain. You can see the snow falling on the web cam. [Hi, The last few days have seen temp below freezing all day and down to -7oC at night. The day temp are about -2oC. Went skiing for the first time with my boys to Flachau ( unfortunately my wife can't ski because she is pregnant!!). The conditions were perfect. There was only one lift open in our resort, but next week -end there willl be 6 lifts open so we will ski here then. My only worry is the warm weather forecast for the middle of this week!!, but then it is meant to get colder again form Sunday onwards. Hopefully it be as warm as they think. The air is very cold here at the moment. Hi, Its snowing again!! As id did yesterday. The official depth now is 80cm in the village. It has been that for the last 3 days even though it has been snowing since then. I think it because the snow has compacted due to the weight. The temp last night was -5 oC and is at the mo0ment -1.5 oC. The lifts are open this weekend and so I should get my first ski of the season!! The next village is still cut off due to Avalanche risk on the road which has been in place since Saturday. Hi, Thanks for your comments. Just a quick report. Had rain yesterday but turned back to snow last night and it has been snowing since then. We now have 80cm in the village and 150cm on he mountain. I have now set up a webcam of my garden:- http://austriasnow.camstreams.com/ It will only allow about 8 people on at the same time so you have to keep refreshing if it busy!! I am only just setting it up at the moment so I hope to improve on this with time. Can anyone recommend a good webcam or a wireless one?? Hope you like it. Nigel

Hi, We know have about 50cm of snow and it is still snowing!!! Still quite a lot on the radar although it has forecast to turn to sleet for a while tomorrow but it might not because the snow depth may keep the temp colder. We will have to see- it has forecast sleet or rain before and then it has remained snow. At the moment the long range forecast is for snow for the next week!![ ] and day time temp down to -2oC I will have to wait to see if this willl happen!! Hi, There are weather warnings out for Austria because of the risk of heavy snow this weekend. I have just been out for a quick walk and there must be about 20 cm already!! DD It has been snowing all day but not sticking but since dusk it has been. Hi, Snowed on and of all day yesterday but it had started to melt on the ground. But today temp is 0oC and it is snowing again!! Even the road is covered again. But it has forecast 12 oC by the weekend so it will melt by then . Although on the mountains it will not. We must have had about 30cm so far in the village and the mountains must have easily over 60 cm!! Lets hope its a good sign for the winter!! Here is our local ski slope- unfortunately the lift were not opened but some people had climbed up. This is at the bottom of the lift at village level. Hi, It has now been snowing here non-stop for over 36 hours!! This usually happens when we get a north or north-eastern wind we just get loads of snow. On the radar there is no snow anywhere else but over us!! The depth of snow is now about 30 cm, and looking at the radar quite a lot more to come!! Hi, Haven't posted here for a while since last winter I think - but will I will try and post more when the snow arrives. First proper snow today. ( not the first snow since we had falling snow in September but did not settle). The mountains must have about 20cm or more now. We had a covering yesterday morning but even though it snowed all day the laying snow melted. The temp was about 3oC. But last night the temp dropped below freezing ( it is now -1oC) and this morning we have about 6 cm and it is still snowing!!! More is forecast tonight and tomorrow. This is very early for snow haven't even got the snow tyres on yet!!! I will upload some photos later. Do people think there is going to be the season when we get a Scandinavian High- if we do I think it could get very cold around here!! Nigel

UPDATE:- It is still snowing here and last night we lost power for about 2 hours because a tree fell on a power line and this morning we had one on our house!! Luckily we don't think it has damaged the roof. With there been no frost before the snow the trees are very weak. There are loads down on the road and in the forest. Lets hope it stops snowing soon. there must be about 50 cm now. Nigel

Hi, Haven't been on here for a while since we have been busy with our guests ut here is some pictures of the snowfall here today:- and:- Temp about 0.5 oC and this is the heaviest snowfall I have seen - even beats last year. It would have taken about 3 dyas for this amount. We now have about 40cm. Nigel

Hi, After the November snow we had not much to report until today. Well winter has finally arrived this week. Temps down to -10oC ( amazing since last Friday 10 oC !! :lol: ) Snow showers since last Sunday - quite a lot on the mountain ( about 20 cm )but only about 5 cm in the village. We missed the big storm that hit Germany and sounthern Austria earlier this week. Total chaos in southern Germany. Don't believe people when they say snow only disrupts UK- there were still accidents on the auto bahns!!. But we now have about 20 cm so far and looking at the radar over Germany still lots more to come. :lol: This type of situation usually gives us a lot of snow - a northerly over Germany. We are the first mountains it hits and it just takes all the moisture it carries. You can see it building up as it hits the mountains. On the map we are are about half way due south between Salzburg and the border with Italy. http://www.wetteronline.de/radar/eurodOSf.htm Currently -3oC and the skiing should be excellent now!! Although we have only lost 1 day of skiing ( last Friday) since the resorts opened on the 15th December. I don't think we will get up to the levels last year but it does mean less snow clearing .
